Planned Protest: Nigerians in Diaspora Withdraw Action Against Kyari

Nigerians In Diaspora Back Out of Planned Protest Against Mele Kyari

Nigerians based in United States under the umbrella of Nigerians in Diaspora for Peace and Unity today withdrawn its earlier decision to embark on Protest against for Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Engineer Mele Kyari on suspicion that it was sponsored.

According to group with its headquarters in Washington D.C, it didn’t get its facts right, when the decision to embark on the Protest was made, thus was misled to believe that Kyari mismanaged the country’s oil company.

“We were ready to move to the street to protest because we were made to believe Kyari fled Nigeria to avoid accountability for financial misconduct during his six-year tenure at NNPCL from 2019 to 2025.” It stated .

It was widely reported that that hundreds of Nigerians had protested at the Nigerian High Commission and the UK Home Office in London, calling for the deportation of former Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) boss, Mele Kyari, to face corruption investigations in Nigeria.

In a statement issued and made available to journalists today, the Nigerians in Diaspora for Peace and Unity announced that it has withdrawn from the planned protest schedule for Friday and orders members across United and United Kingdom to comply with the directive.

The group in the statement signed by the Chairman ,Chief Sebastian West Lokpobiri explained: “We did set a 10-man fact finding committee ahead of the scheduled date for the protest and later discovered that the former NNPCL boss rather did well to reposition the company and shouldn’t be ridiculed

The statement further reads : “We also discovered that NNPCL under Kyari was not only revived to produce refined Petrol for our teeming population, but it operational lines were transparent; effective and profit oriented.

“As group,we don’t take actions blindly without digging up the facts behind any issue raised from public discourse or disenchantment. It is against this background that we have decided to suspend action to embark on protest.

“We therefore advise other groups that have been misled or sponsored to protest to suspend action and commend Kyari efforts to resuscitate our once comatose oil company.”

RE: RESPONSE TO OLUCHI OPARA’S BASELESS REBUTTAL – A CALL FOR TRUTH AND UNITY IN THE LABOUR PARTY

RE: RESPONSE TO OLUCHI OPARA’S BASELESS REBUTTAL – A CALL FOR TRUTH AND UNITY IN THE LABOUR PARTY

Our attention has been drawn to a recent public rebuttal made by Ms. Oluchi Opara, former Treasurer of the Labour Party, in response to a recent publication, where His Excellency Faduri Joseph described the current situation within Labour Party as a poetic justice.

It is disappointing and indeed shameful that a former national officer of a party—one who was present during the crucial period leading up to the 2023 elections—could publicly claim ignorance of the involvement and pivotal role played by His Excellency Faduri Oluwadare Joseph in reviving the Labour Party in 2022 as well as he being a presidential aspirant under the party. Her statements, riddled so riddled with misinformation. And for one who is supposed to be in charge of treasury of a party to claim not to know about the record of the payment made by an aspirant for Expression of Interest and Nomination Form is really so funny. Even Lai Mohammed will not even tell that kind of lie. However if she wants to claim not to remember what was obvious, then we will advise her to ask herself why Faduri was compelled to step down for His Excellency Peter Obi during the Labour Party Presidential Primary in 2022 in Asaba, Delta State. Can one who was not an aspirant be compelled to step down for another aspirant in a political party primary election?

In addition to other records, pictures taken during the 2022 Asaba LP presidential primary elections are still available. In fact, one of those pictures is where Mr Faduri Joseph and Prof Pat Utomi who where presidential aspirants both lifted up Mr Peter Obi’s hand after they stepped down to allow him emerge as the presidential candidate of Labour Party for the 2023 presidential election.

Well, her claim also clearly portrays a level of detachment and unseriousness that plagued the party’s leadership during her tenure. One would expect a person who held the sensitive position of Treasurer to have been well-informed. Instead, Ms. Opara’s statements portrays her as so uninvolved and unaware of the party’s inner workings. And if that is what she is trying to portray, then it is even more unfortunate that she failed to consult relevant stakeholders or official party records— or the former National Secretary, Dr. Abayomi Arabambi—before making such misleading claims regarding the presidential aspiration of Faduri Joseph who paid for both his Expression of Interest and Nomination Form under the same Labour Party and was at Asaba with massive supporters ready for the presidential election primary before he was compelled to step down for Peter Obi to allow Obi emerge as the presidential candidate ahead of the 2023 presidential election. More pictures and videos that are still on internet space that can even be easily accessed by any lay man not to talk of a former national treasurer is not only ridiculous but shameful.

Hence, contrary to her assertions, His Excellency Faduri Oluwadare Joseph (Fadojoe), was indeed a presidential aspirant of the Labour Party in the lead-up to the 2023 general elections. And his engagements were well-documented across major national media outlets including Arise TV, Channels TV, AIT, etc, and multiple leading Nigerian newspapers. Also it was through his intervention and active mobilization that the Labour Party was brought back to national relevance before Mr. Peter Obi eventually joined the race just 5 days to Asaba primary a fact the whole world knows.

We must also remind Ms. Opara that building a credible party requires honesty, accountability, and informed participation—not pettiness, misinformation, or tribal sentiment and publicly lieing.

ON TRIBALISM AND THE OBEDIENT MOVEMENT

We must also address the wave of unprovoked attacks from some individuals who identify as members of the Obidient Movement—many of whom are my fellow Igbo brothers and sisters. While we appreciate the energy and passion that drove the movement, it is important to understand that the Labour Party is not, and must never be, an ethnic or regional party.

One of the critical mistakes we made in 2023 was allowing the public perception that the party was pushing an “Igbo agenda.” This alienated a broad base of national support. It must be stated clearly: the Obidient Movement was born out of the Rescue Movement for a New Nigeria, which Mr Faduri Joseph helped to initiate and even go further to register in the United States alongside patriotic Nigerians from all ethnic groups in the diaspora.

Attacking other aspirants or labelling them as opposition agents will only weaken our resolve and fracture the unity we so desperately need. His Excellency remains one of the few consistent and credible opposition voices against the APC government, through the platform of the Rescue Movement—a platform that has pushed for positive reforms and has been instrumental in compelling the government to act on critical issues.

A CALL FOR UNITY AND NATIONAL INTEREST

On this note, we want to call on all Labour Party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters to put aside personal egos, ethnic sentiments, and petty divisions. If we truly seek to unseat the current government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 and rescue Nigeria, then we must begin by reconciling within our own party.

A house divided against itself cannot stand. We need one party, one voice, one vision—and that vision must be built on truth, accountability, and national interest above all else.

We urge Ms. Oluchi Opara to retrace her steps, seek out the truth, and issue a public apology for her false and reckless statements. Only then can we move forward together to reposition our party for national leadership.

Signed,

Rev Emmanuel Olorunmagba,

National Media Director, Rescue Movement for New Nigeria aka

Rescue The Vulnerable Initiative.

Group Condemns Afenifere Calls For Suspension Of SGF

Group Condemns Afenifere Calls For Suspension Of SGF

A civil society organisation, Concern Youth for Better Leadership (CYBEL), including a political group, APC Ambassadors For Good Governance, has condemned the recent calls for the suspension of Dr. George Akume as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

The groups described the accusations as baseless and motivated by corrupt interests seeking to undermine the significant progress Akume had made so far as the secretary of the government of the Federation.

The groups strongly condemn the recent call for the suspension of the SGF, Senator Dr. George Akume, describing the allegations against him as baseless, unfounded, and politically motivated, and pledge support for his leadership style.

In a press statement issued on Sunday  and made available to the pressmen, the group leaders, including Hon. Dr Aliyu Mohammed Doffanni

National Coordinator (CYBEL),   Hon. Lukman Ibrahim, Secretary, APC Ambassadors, accused the cultural group behind the suspension call of attempting to mislead the public by wrongly linking Senator Akume to a corruption act, which investigations are currently being handled by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to the group, the case under EFCC investigation involves Mr. Torhile Uchi, a Senior Special Assistant to the President who is attached to the SGF’s office, not the SGF himself.

“The case under EFCC investigation does not directly implicate Sen. George Akume. There is no evidence or official indictment linking him to any wrongdoing. Due process must be allowed to take its course before concluding,” the statement emphasised.

The groups offered a detailed portrayal of Senator Akume’s distinguished public service record, calling him a statesman, strategist, and a champion of good governance.

Senator Dr. George Akume’s political career spans over four decades of dedicated service to Nigeria.

“A former Governor of Benue State, a three-term Senator of the Federal Republic, and a former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs,

“Dr. Akume has consistently demonstrated visionary leadership, administrative expertise, and a firm belief in the power of governance as a tool for national transformation.”

The statement added that SGF in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu plays a pivotal role in the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“He has helped streamline governmental operations, strengthened inter-agency coordination, and championed transparency and inclusiveness in governance.

“His bridge-building qualities and deep understanding of Nigeria’s political landscape have made him an indispensable pillar in the APC-led federal government.

“Calling for Sen. Akume’s suspension without a shred of evidence is not only unjust but also a threat to the integrity of the administration. It is a calculated attempt to disrupt the machinery of government and distract from the real progress being made,” the group added.

The group noted that any attempt to suspend Akume on unproven grounds would not only be unfair but also detrimental to the progress of the Renewed Hope Agenda, which relies heavily on experienced technocrats like him to drive critical reforms.

Reaffirming its solidarity, APC-IGG declared that Senator Akume remains a vital force in the success of the current administration and a symbol of patriotism, credibility, and public trust.

“We urge the public and the media to reject any attempt to tarnish the image of a man who has dedicated his life to national development. The future of Nigeria depends on responsible leadership and the protection of reputations built on decades of committed service,” the statement concluded.

The groups expressed disappointment in those who have sought to discredit George Akume, suggesting that the calls for his suspension are orchestrated by individuals benefiting from the previous corrupt practices in Nigeria.

The group urged President Bola Tinubu to reject these demands

UMAR AJIYA’S NNPC LEGACIES

UMAR AJIYA’S NNPC LEGACIES

By Ibrahim Abdullahi

In a country often plagued by leadership inertia and institutional opacity, Umar Ajiya Isa stands tall as a symbol of transformational leadership, financial discipline, and patriotic commitment. A native of Isa Local Government in Sokoto State, his rise from humble beginnings to becoming a central figure in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry is nothing short of inspirational. Today, he is not just a former NNPC executive, but the Ajiyan Sokoto—a revered title that reflects both his professional accomplishments and his service to the community.

Ajiya’s remarkable journey began with a solid academic foundation and matured through a stellar 22-year career at Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG), where he developed the strategic and financial acumen that would later power his transformational work in the public energy sector. His deep understanding of the global gas economy and project financing made him a valuable asset as he transitioned into higher responsibilities at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

As Group General Manager of Corporate Planning and Strategy at NNPC, he introduced robust business models for Autonomous Business Units and revived the long-dormant Price Review Committee. These reforms became the foundation for NNPC’s dramatic turnaround—culminating in the first profit declaration in its history: ₦287 billion in 2020, ₦674 billion in 2021, ₦2.52 trillion in 2022, and a record ₦3.30 trillion in 2023.

As Managing Director of Pipelines and Products Marketing Company (PPMC), Ajiya engineered an unprecedented revival. He reversed decades of losses by introducing the PMS ex-coastal price correction policy, saving Nigeria ₦72 billion annually. He championed digital transformation, led SAP implementation, and fostered critical stakeholder synergy. PPMC, for the first time in its 28-year history, declared profit under his watch in 2018.

Appointed NNPC’s Chief Financial Officer in 2019, Ajiya unlocked monumental financing opportunities. He secured $1 billion for NPDC to settle outstanding Petroleum Profits Tax (PPT), helping shield the Federation Account during the 2020 COVID-19 downturn. He also coordinated $1 billion in equity financing for Nigeria’s stake in the Dangote Refinery—ensuring national participation in Africa’s largest refinery project. Even more critical was his role in facilitating a $3 billion crude-backed financing arrangement for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to stabilize the Naira during forex volatility.

Notably, Ajiya’s reforms elevated NNPC to the rank of Nigeria’s highest taxpayer, a feat reflecting unmatched fiscal transparency and revenue optimization. He also drove upstream and midstream project financing models and successfully restructured NNPC’s balance sheet in line with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), steering the Corporation into a new commercial era.

Beyond the boardroom, Ajiya’s philanthropy and community leadership speak volumes. From supporting educational initiatives to youth empowerment in Isa Local Government, he has given back meaningfully. His recent appointment as Co-Chair of the Sokoto State Economic Advisory Council underscores his continued commitment to public service and regional development.

Umar Ajiya Isa is more than a technocrat—he is a nation-builder whose legacy will echo for generations. As Ajiyan Sokoto, he carries not just a title, but the trust of a people and the credibility of a life defined by service, excellence, and vision.

Alleged Starvation, Sodomization of Inmates At Kano Correctional Facility: NCS Swiftly Denied The Allegations.

BY COMRADE MUSA MOHAMMED

A viral interview conducted by an ex-inmate named Shehu Adamu, who claims to be detained at Goron-dutse Correctional Facility for 9 years and has made serious allegations regarding the conditions within the facility. According to his account, inmates are subjected to hunger and starvation, which he asserts have led younger inmates to succumb to acts of sodomy as a desperate means of survival, which he further urges the relevant authorities to verify these claims.

Adamu who was arrested in 2015 over a robbery case linked to a stolen mobile phone, he was acquitted by the Federal High Court on April 29, 2025.

A team of journalists visited the Goron Dutse correctional centre in kano state for confirmation and investigation.

The team of journalists interacted with the Area Controller of Nigeria Correctional Service Kano State command Ado Inuwa,
CC Kafilu Abdullahi, who is in charge of the Goron Dutse correctional centre, some inmates that interviewed which includes Sadiq Dauda popularly known as’General Liman’ who is the Imam of the inmates, Head of the Christians Chaplain Francis Nathaniel, which they all denied the allegations in the entirety.

The inmates that spoke with journalists said is entirely false, baseless, the viral claims made by Shehu Adamu, a recently released inmate, who alleged widespread abuse, rape, and inhumane conditions at the Goron Dutse Correctional Centre in the State.

The Controller also described Adamu’s allegations as a calculated attempt to malign the state, Islam, and the practice of Shariah in Kano State.

“Nothing he said is true, because there’s was no evidence of rape, hunger, or abuse. His story was concocted to generate controversy and damage the reputation of islam”.

The Controller lamented that some journalists are always spreading unverified claims on social media, calling on media to remain cautious and responsible.

The Controller refuted the claims of sodomy, rape, and deaths due to hunger as baseless and unsupported by evidence.

Adding that the Kano Command strictly adheres to the Nigerian Correctional Service Act, 2019.

ACC Kafilu Abdullahi in charge of the Goron Dutse correctional centre described Adamu’s claims as false.
Adding that Adamu was never held at Goron Dutse, he was remanded at Kurmawa custodial centre.

“Contrary to the claim that Shehu Adamu spent nine years awaiting trial, official records show he was remanded for only four months on charges of conspiracy and criminal breach of trust before his release”.

“Adamu was ever held at Goron Dutse, he was remanded at the Kurmawa Custodial Centre, as documented in the official registers.” Kafilu added.

Gov Uba Sani, Kaduna’s Unifier, Deliverer of Promises: A Beacon of Peace, Progress, Writes Tom Garba

Gov Uba Sani, Kaduna’s Unifier, Deliverer of Promises: A Beacon of Peace, Progress, Writes Tom Garba

By Emmanuel Kwada

After traversing Kaduna State from local government to ward, Tom Garba, publisher of TGNews, has witnessed firsthand the transformative wave sweeping the state, declaring that Governor Uba Sani is the answered prayer of its diverse populace, a unifier who delivers promises with unwavering resolve.

Locals, in agreement with Tom Garba, confess that Sani has ushered in a rebirth, lifting Kaduna from the shadows of division, the scourge of insecurity, and infrastructural deficits.

Tom Garba proclaims that Kaduna is experiencing a golden era of peace, unity, and unprecedented progress, with Sani at the epicenter, his inclusive, empathetic, and strategic leadership redefining governance in Nigeria.

Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Tom Garba celebrates, Sani has positioned Kaduna as a shining model of stability, prosperity, and hope, fulfilling the fervent aspirations of its people for harmony.

Tom Garba lauds Governor Uba Sani’s leadership for its extraordinary ability to foster unity across Kaduna’s complex ethnic and religious divides.

Once scarred by ethno-religious tensions, Kaduna has, under Sani’s stewardship, enjoyed two years of remarkable peace, a feat Tom Garba notes has drawn global admiration. Former Commonwealth Secretary-General Sir Emeka Anyaoku, as Tom Garba recounts, praised Sani’s peace-building genius, stating, “Kaduna is safer today because of Governor Sani’s vision.”

This accolade, Tom Garba emphasizes, resonates with millions who have seen hope restored in communities once besieged by insecurity.

Sani’s non-kinetic security strategy, prioritizing dialogue, community engagement, and intelligence-sharing, is a game-changer, Tom Garba asserts.

In volatile areas like Birnin-Gwari, previously a hotbed of banditry, Tom Garba observes that peace has returned, enabling farmers to till their lands and families to rebuild.

By fostering trust between communities and security agencies, Tom Garba credits Sani with creating a sustainable framework for stability, proving empathy and collaboration can triumph over conflict.

A defining moment, Tom Garba recounts, occurred on May 4, 2025, when Sani distributed 23 vehicles to 19 Emirs and Chiefs, a collaborative effort with the Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives and SMEDAN.

Tom Garba explains that this initiative addressed mobility challenges faced by traditional rulers, empowering them to enhance community-level security.

“I mooted the idea of seeking intervention to the Honourable Speaker,” Sani said, as Tom Garba quotes. “I am happy that SMEDAN has intervened to put smiles on the faces of our Royal Fathers,” Tom Garba continues, citing Sani.

These vehicles, Tom Garba notes, facilitate intelligence-sharing and grassroots surveillance. “Our Royal Fathers are unrelenting in promoting peaceful co-existence and shared prosperity,” Sani pledged, as Tom Garba highlights, reinforcing his commitment to their welfare.

This gesture, Tom Garba affirms, not only strengthened security but also deepened ties with traditional institutions, cementing Sani’s reputation as a leader who cherishes cultural heritage.

Tom Garba extols Sani’s collaborative spirit, which extends to partnerships with security agencies, community leaders, and diverse stakeholders, stabilizing Kaduna’s security landscape.

The Kaduna Democrats League, Tom Garba notes, declared Sani “unstoppable” for 2027, reflecting widespread support. Characterized by regular engagements with farmers, traders, youth, and women, Tom Garba describes Sani’s open governance as demystifying leadership, fostering trust and accountability.

Unlike traditional politicians, Tom Garba praises Sani as accessible and committed to the people’s needs.
Sani’s appointments, Tom Garba points out, reflect this inclusive ethos, with Hadiza Balarabe named as Kaduna’s female deputy governor and experienced officials retained, building a diverse team mirroring the state’s rich tapestry.

United by a shared vision, Tom Garba describes Sani’s administration as a melting pot of talent. This inclusivity, Tom Garba credits, has strengthened the APC, with 225 councillors and 23 LGA chairmen endorsing Sani for a second term, citing his commitment to internal democracy and grassroots empowerment.

Beyond security, Tom Garba celebrates Sani’s agricultural revolution, transforming rural Kaduna and positioning it as a hub for food security and economic empowerment.

Recognizing agriculture’s vital role, Tom Garba highlights Sani’s allocation of N22.54 billion—nearly 5% of the 2024 budget—to the sector, underscoring his commitment to rural transformation.

The Tallafin Noma Initiative, Tom Garba lauds, supports 41,693 smallholder farmers across all 23 LGAs with seeds, fertilizers, and equipment, while 120,000 farmers have received inputs, sparking a “Get Back to Farm” movement boosting livelihoods.

Tom Garba praises Sani’s investment in mechanization, procuring tractors, harvesters, and trailers—the first significant effort since 2010.

Solar-powered irrigation pumps, Tom Garba notes, enable year-round farming, ensuring self-reliance.

The AFREXIMbank-supported Africa Quality Assurance Centre, Tom Garba declares, positions Kaduna as a hub for agricultural product testing, attracting global exporters.

Sani’s meeting with Ayo Sotinrin of the Bank of Agriculture, Tom Garba underscores, unveiled strategies to strengthen the agricultural value chain. “With credible institutions like BOA, we can drive food security, create jobs, and empower our rural communities,” Sani declared, as Tom Garba quotes, signaling a new era of prosperity.

This partnership, Tom Garba affirms, will unlock Kaduna’s rural economy, creating wealth and opportunity.

Tom Garba describes Sani’s infrastructure agenda as transformative, bridging urban-rural divides with 78 road projects spanning 775–827 km, including the Kabala-Costain Road rehabilitation.

These roads, Tom Garba notes, improve access to markets, schools, and healthcare, transforming rural lives.

Mosaddig Soja of Kauru LGA, as Tom Garba recounts, said, “Thank you, Governor Uba Sani, for prioritizing infrastructure development. The ongoing road construction will greatly benefit our community.”

The Qatar Charity-supported Kaduna Economic City, Tom Garba highlights, promises mass housing and economic revitalization, while an N800 million investment in water infrastructure ensures clean water access.

These projects, Tom Garba affirms, reflect Sani’s inclusive development vision.

In healthcare, Tom Garba praises Sani’s 15% budget allocation, revolutionizing access and earning NMA accolades.

Upgrading 255 Primary Healthcare Centres and renovating 13 general hospitals, Tom Garba notes, reduces referral burdens.

The 300-bed Millennium City Hospital, 98% complete, Tom Garba declares, will curb medical tourism. Kaduna’s 100% availability of 975 essential medicines, a national first, Tom Garba celebrates, sets a benchmark.

Sani’s provision of 45 motorcycles and three Hilux vehicles, Tom Garba credits, improved TB case finding by over 20%, earning awards.

Educationally, Tom Garba lauds Sani for reintegrating 300,000 students through 40 school projects, targeting 200,000 out-of-school children.

As a senator, Tom Garba recounts, Sani secured a $28 million Kuwait Fund and a N5 billion Faculty of Engineering at Kaduna State University, nearing completion. These efforts, Tom Garba underscores, nurture Kaduna’s next generation.

Tom Garba celebrates Sani’s economic vision, attracting $89.3 million in investments, including a $350 million hydrogen plant, creating 20,976 jobs.

The A Kori Talauci program and Uba Sani Foundation, Tom Garba notes, empower millions. A Doctorate Degree from FUT Minna and a Google-backed Tech-Enabled Startups Law, Tom Garba declares, highlight Sani’s innovation.

A Senatorial Legacy and National Icon
Tom Garba recounts Sani’s senatorial tenure (2019–2023), sponsoring 32 bills, three assented to by President Buhari. Ranked number one by OrderPaper, Tom Garba notes, Sani earned Hall of Fame induction. His N20 billion interventions, Tom Garba credits, laid the groundwork for today’s achievements.

As Kaduna soars, Tom Garba proclaims Sani a unifier and visionary, recognized by dignitaries, awarded by the NMA, and endorsed by 225 councillors and 23 LGA chairmen.

The Kaduna Democrats League’s “unstoppable” declaration, Tom Garba notes, reflects support for Sani’s transformative agenda.

From security to agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and the economy, Tom Garba celebrates Sani’s exceeding expectations, making Kaduna a shining example of leadership.
Tom Garba declares that Kaduna is on the rise, with Sani as its architect.

Continuing to deliver promises, Tom Garba affirms, Kaduna testifies to unity, empathy, and action. Sani, Tom Garba concludes, is not just Kaduna’s leader but Nigeria’s hope for a brighter future.

Democracy Under Threat: Why Tinubu Must Defend the Freedoms He Once Fought – Faduri Oluwadare Joseph

Democracy Under Threat: Why Tinubu Must Defend the Freedoms He Once Fought For By Faduri Oluwadare Joseph

In a recent address on Faduri Oluwadare Joseph YouTube channel, , Faduri Oluwadare Joseph — also known as FADOJOE, a presidential aspirant under the Labour Party and founder of the Rescue Movement and the F-Planet — shared deep concerns about the state of governance, law, and democracy in Nigeria.

This message is directed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the leader of our nation. As someone who once stood for freedom, justice, and the rule of law, it is troubling to see Nigeria now drifting away from the very principles you once fought for.

From the top to the grassroots, lawlessness is creeping into the fabric of our society. Ministers and political office holders, instead of leading by example, are beginning to act without regard for due process or the constitution. A democracy is meant to be a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. It thrives on transparency, accountability, and adherence to the rule of law — not intimidation or abuse of power.

The recent actions by David Umahi, the Minister of Works, are a case in point. Property owners and investors are now living in fear, as projects and investments are being destroyed under the guise of development, often without proper legal backing or consultation. This not only erodes public trust but also discourages investment in our economy.

Even more disturbing is the unjust arrest of Nigerian activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan by Economic and Financial Crimes and Commision(EFCC). He was picked up and held for 72 hours without any clear charge or due process. If indeed he broke any law, the proper approach should have been an invitation to respond to allegations. Arresting him like a criminal, without explanation, is not just a violation of his rights — it is a blow to the democracy we claim to uphold.

Contrast this with the case of Yahaya Bello, former Governor of Kogi State, who is alleged to have looted over 80 billion naira. Till today, there has been no similar urgency in pursuing justice. This selective application of the law raises serious questions about fairness and credibility.

Why is it that youth voices are being silenced while powerful politicians operate above the law? Is this the democracy we fought for? It is becoming increasingly difficult for Nigerians to speak freely without fear of retaliation. Arresting citizens for expressing dissent or criticism is not governance — it is tyranny in disguise.

Mr. President, this is not the Nigeria we dreamed of. As someone who once led battles for free speech, for freedom of movement, and for the rule of law, we urge you to reflect on the direction your administration is heading. Power is fleeting. History will remember what leaders do in times like this.

All over the world, especially in democracies like the United States, presidents face public criticism daily. That does not justify unlawful arrests. Freedom of speech is a pillar of any functioning democracy. Silencing voices today only endangers the peace of tomorrow.

It is time for a reset. Government appointees and ministers must be held accountable. The rule of law must not be optional — it must be sacred. As a nation, we are walking a dangerous path. If unchecked, this descent into authoritarianism may lead to consequences that future generations might find impossible to fix.

We are not enemies of the state — we are patriots who want Nigeria to work. We believe in a country where laws are obeyed, where voices are heard, and where justice is blind to status or power. Let us remember that power comes and goes. Let our leaders strive to leave a legacy built on justice, not fear.

Nigeria deserves better — and together, we can make it better. But it starts with obeying the law, respecting the people, and protecting our democracy.

I am Faduri Oluwadare Joseph, founder of the Rescue Movement for a New Nigeria. Let us rise together to build a Nigeria that respects the rule of law — a country that future generations can be proud of.

Kaduna’s Roads: A Tale of Three Governors

Kaduna’s Roads: A Tale of Three Governors

By Maxwell Bako Dogara

Kaduna State is witnessing a quiet but powerful transformation in its road infrastructure—one that does more than connect people and places. Under Governor Uba Sani, road construction is rewriting the political narrative of performance, equity, and quality in governance. For the first time in over a decade, Kaduna’s rural communities and farming hubs are finally at the centre of a strategic infrastructure vision that prioritizes both food security and inclusivity.

What makes this change even more telling is the historical contrast it draws. For instance, roads built under the late Governor Patrick Yakowa—such as Yakowa Way in Millennium City and the Yan Karfe to Emanto Junction Road in Zaria—still stand strong more than a decade later. Constructed around 2010, these roads have withstood the test of time, weather, and usage. They are physical testaments to Yakowa’s principled commitment to quality, functionality, and sustainability. In a state where infrastructure is often politicized, Yakowa’s legacy remains quietly unshaken, in contrast to El-Rufai’s.

By comparison, the road projects under Governor Nasir El-Rufai, completed just a few years ago, have failed to demonstrate the same resilience. Roads like Rafin Guza and FRCN Road—once flagged as part of a grand “urban renewal” agenda—have become early casualties of poor durability. Governor Uba Sani is now not only reconstructing these roads but expanding them. The Rafin Guza project, for example, is being extended to Hayin Naiya, Malalin Gabas, and Kukumake, ultimately linking to the KASU Permanent Site—a move that reflects deeper planning and inclusive connectivity.

It doesn’t stop there. Several other roads built under El-Rufai—Lugard Roundabout to Kawo, College Road in Unguwan Dosa, Rigasa to Railway Station Road, Mando to Rigasa Road, and Sabon Birni Road in Kawo—have all required urgent maintenance under Uba Sani’s administration, despite being only a few years old. These are not isolated failures; they are symptomatic of a governance model that emphasized optics over durability, urban showpieces over rural necessities.

Governor Uba Sani’s approach marks a radical departure. His road transformation is not just about fixing inherited decay—it’s about building a people-first roadmap that reconnects Kaduna’s economy to its agricultural heartbeat. His government is focusing on roads that matter to the majority: rural roads that open up farmer markets, connect villages to processing centres, and reduce post-harvest losses. This strategy, rooted in economic pragmatism, is already playing a vital role in Kaduna’s growing push for food security.

Under the so-called “Urban Renewal Programme,” the El-Rufai administration focused on road development in just seven LGAs, leaving vast swaths of the state underdeveloped. Even more damning, 76% of these projects were concentrated in just one local government area—Kaduna North—revealing a deeply skewed development pattern that alienated rural dwellers and undermined the potential of the agricultural economy. Governor Uba Sani has responded with a statewide rural road inclusion policy, distributing development more evenly and rebuilding trust between government and the governed.

This is not mere road construction—it is a philosophical reset. While El-Rufai’s infrastructure legacy is beginning to unravel just two years after he left office, Uba Sani’s roads are being laid with vision, purpose, and rural empowerment at their core. The rural farmer in Giwa or the market woman in Kauru now has just as much right to smooth roads as the civil servant in Barnawa. That is what inclusive governance looks like.

As one political analyst aptly puts it, “Inclusive governance is not when everyone claps in the city, but when development reaches the quiet corners where voices are seldom heard.”

The contrast is now impossible to ignore: while El-Rufai built for applause, Uba Sani is building for impact. While Yakowa built for posterity, Sani is building for prosperity.

If the roads of a state can tell a story, Kaduna’s roads are today telling one of truth, equity, and overdue correction. Governor Uba Sani’s quiet revolution is not only correcting the wrongs of the past—it is setting the pace for what infrastructure should mean in a democratic society: service to all, not a few.
