Tension in Adamawa As INEC refuses to announce guber results

Tension in Adamawa As INEC refuses to announce guber results

There’s confusion at the Adamawa state Governorship election results collation center. This follows refusal by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Yunusa, to collate governorship results from Fufore local government area.

As of now, results from 20 local government areas have been collated, giving the incumbent governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri a slight lead.

The last result that is pending is from Fufore local government which generated hot controversy during the day.

The election was keenly contested between the incumbent governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (PDP) and Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani (APC).

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hudu Yunusa, had in a leaked audio directed the Electoral Officer in Fufore local government area to rig the election in favour of Binani.

Our correspondent had earlier today reported that the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for Adamawa state, Hudu Yunusa, directed an election official, Hammajam Mohammed, to rig the governorship election in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani, according to a leaked audio.

In the leaked audio obtained by SaharaReporters, Yunusa told Mohammed to do everything humanly possible to make Binani win. He told the electoral official that he was instructed by a higher authority to make Binani win.

The audio conversation goes thus: REC; is that our official from Gombi?

Mohammed: No sir, I’m from Fufore, sir.

REC: I’ve heard what happened, however, do whatever you can to help this woman (Binani), that’s why I gave you an extra results sheet. Please, do just anything to make her scale through.

When contacted, Yunusa denied the allegation but attempted to negotiate with SaharaReporters’ correspondent to kill the report

The National Security and Intelligence Agency (NISA) personnel has fled the country

Somalia, a country located in the Horn of Africa, has been struggling with political instability and economic challenges for decades. In recent years, the country has been under the leadership of President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, who was elected in 2022 second time, However, his administration has been facing several challenges.

One of the major issues that have emerged in Mahmoud’s administration is the persecution of former servants of the previous administration. It is reported that many of these servants have fled the country, fearing for their lives, while others have gone into hiding. Some of them have had their property confiscated, adding insult to injury. The persecution of former servants began with the arrest of Coronel Abdullahi Dheere’s driver, Mr Dheere was the Former Head of NISA Monitoring and Counter-Terrorist and is believed to be a close associate of the former President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed (Farmaajo).

The reason for Mr Dheere’s Driver arrest is unclear, but it is reported that it has led to a chain reaction, with other former servants being targeted as well. Some believe that this is an attempt to consolidate power and eliminate any potential opposition to the current administration, this persecution has caused a great deal of instability in the country. Many professionals working in the NISA, who was appointed during the previous administration, have had their salaries suspended and replaced with unqualified servants. This has led to a decline in the quality of services offered by the NISA.

Moreover, the international community has expressed concerns about the situation in NISA, with some donors suspending funding to the Agency. This has further exacerbated the security challenges facing the country and has made it difficult for the government to provide security to its citizens.

The actions of the current administration have drawn criticism from Human Hight Watch when the Parliament passed a bill concerning NISA sweeping powers of arrest, detention, and surveillance with minimal independent oversight https://www.hrw.org/news/2023/02/24/somalia-revamp-intelligence-agency-bill which have called on the government to respect the rights of all citizens, and the President should not sign this bill said the Human Right Watch, President ignored and sign last week, Mr Dheere knows well said that this will damage President Mahmoud’s reputation and the international cooperation with the Agency It will lead to a decline in the quality of the Agency offered by partners.

2023 Guber Race: Senator Shehu Sani Backs Sanwo-olu’s Re-election Bid

Guber Race: Senator Shehu Sani Backs Sanwo-olu’s Re-election Bid

…says experience, capacity to deliver matter in Governance

Ahead of the Saturday Governorship elections across Nigeria, the former Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Sani has backed the re-election bid of the All Progressives Congress candidate and current Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-olu.

According to him, though the recent presidential election results reveal the overt threats from the Labour Party in Lagos State, it’s time the voters in the State shun all forms of sentiments and considered experience; capacity and ability to work and deliver on campaign promises.

He also said in a cosmopolitan State such as Lagos, people shouldn’t vote along line of sentiments, especially when Sanwo-olu is a working clock and working machine, who has consolidated on the good works of all his predecessors.

Senator Shehu Sani, who stated this in an interview with some journalists on his view about the forthcoming March 18 gubernatorial elections across Nigeria said in his views that, “Stopping Sanwo-olu is stopping the wheel of progress.”

Fielding question on why as a PDP member, he decided to support Sanwo-olu of APC for Lagos Governor instead the PDP candidate , the former Lawmaker said, ” It’s true that I am a member of the People’s Democratic Party ,but from the PDP’s performance during the Presidential election in Lagos , it obvious that the battle is between APC and Labour Party .For me, the leadership record of Sanwo-olu is inspiring.I’m not from Lagos, but Lagosians should vote for him.

On attacks on Igbos and their Properties , Sani said ,”Lagos is not a no man’s land, but it’s wrong to attack the Igbos. They are there, because they believe in one Nigeria. The constitution guarantees every citizen the right to live anywhere.

“I don’t know about the Labour candidate but it appears he is a man of honour and with great ideas. The challenge he poses is good for democracy.”

NLC,TUC Planned Strike over Fuel Scarcity, Naira Crunch Act of Sabotage -Eng. Kailani

NLC,TUC Planned Strike over Fuel Scarcity, Naira Crunch Act of Sabotage -Eng. Kailani

The All Progressives Congress Chieftain, Engineer Kailani Muhammad has said the planned strike by Trade Union Congress and Nigeria Labour Congress over petroleum scarcity and naira crunch is nothing , but an act of sabotage.

Recall that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), on Monday issued a 7-day ultimatum to the federal government to address the current issue of fuel and naira scarcity in the country of face strike action .

But in a reaction to the strike threats , Engineer Kailani Muhammad in a press statement personally signed  made it clear that the masses are not in support of TUC and NLC going on strike at this critical transition period .

According to him, giving the government 7-day ultimatum without recourse to what the federal government is doing to see that the scarcity of fuel disappear, amounts to being insensitive to efforts made so far to address the issues of fuel Scarcity and naira crunch challenges.

Kailani, who was a former staff of NNPC and union member spoke extensively on need for the two labour unions to shelve the strike idea and negotiate with federal government on way forward instead.

He noted that Nigeria just concluded a hitch-free presidential elections with Asiwaju  Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima of All Progressives Congress emerging victorious ,but it seems already the Labour Party and NLC are in romance with PDP to cast aspersions on the election outcomes.

However he said ,” The truth is that any  attempt to go strike  will not augur for Nigeria. If the labour unions want to embark on a sincere strike action, they must as matter of urgency discuss with government on the way forward first .

“Government has been doing his best by way of ensuring adequate supply of PMS and other petroleum products into this country. And from NNPCL reserve , all the time they have over one billion liters to service this country .

“All hand must be on deck to make sure that this government succeeds in the area regular fuel supply .It is unimaginable that at this critical period, NLC and TUC are talking about strike action

“We know there are still areas with queues , but NNPCL is working tirelessly to clear them . It is only the government that is importing fuel.”

While reiterating that the masses  will not tolerate any form of strike now,  he asked ,”We don’t know what they are up to,because we learnt they planned to  cause trouble,so that Nigeria will be on fire?

Meanwhile, he urged the security agencies to act promptly. Stressing that it is insensitive for  union bodies to give government one week ultimatum on  the issues of naira Swap and PMS  without prior failed negotiations .

“If they come out to protest the government should take action on them because they as re not sincere and honest. We want peace and tranquility to reign in this country .

“Subsidy regime is still there ,the federal government is yet to remove it .You are all aware that the  President elect have promised to remove petroleum subsidy”.he stated .

“More  so, that assurance has been given by the Minister of State for  Petroleum  that government the subsidy regime will soon be over, thus there will be competition and marketers would be given opportunity to import without hinderance .

Kailani also hinted that the Port Harcourt refinery will soon become fully operational .

He warned against Saboteurs, saying “Anyone who wants to disturb the peace of this country would be arrested and jailed.”

14 months after death: Remains of ex- Senate President unburied

14 months after death: Remains of ex- Senate President unburied

BY DAHIRU SULEIMAN.

THE remains of the late Senate President in the Second Republic between 1979 and 1983, Senator Joseph Wayas, have yet to be buried 14 months after death.

Investigations has revealed that Wayas died in December 2021. Following the demise, the Cross River State Governor, Prof Ben Ayade, inaugurated a funeral committee immediately to plan for his burial.

The committee was chaired by a two-time Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Kanu Agabi.

However, after over a year, the late Wayas has yet to be laid to rest as family sources said there was no finance to attend to the body and that they could barely cope.

A former executive secretary of the National Planning Commission, Ntufam Ugbo, revealed he was no longer part of the committee.

While affirming Ayade had made funds available for the funeral, he disclosed the first son of the late Senate President, Joseph Wayas Jr, had a better explanation for the delay.

He said, “He cannot say he does not have an explanation to give on why the funeral is delayed. He is the first son, so he should be in charge.

Earlier, Ayade, in a condolence message lamented the passing of the former Senate President, describing his death as a monumental loss to the state in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

In a press statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Christian Ita, Ayade said Dr Wayas left indelible footprints on the sands of time.

“As a state, Cross River is in pain as we mourn the passing of our illustrious son. He was a rare gem. Dr Wayas’ demise is indeed a monumental loss to our dear state and Nigeria,” Ayade said in the statement.

Also, the Chief Media Adviser to Cross River governor, Christian Ita, disclosed that the governor had released funds for the burial.

“I don’t want to get involved in the matter. Perhaps, the first son is the problem, but speak to members of the funeral committee. The governor actually released money for the burial months ago,” said.

However, in response, Wayas Jr blamed the funeral committee for the delay of his late dad’s burial.

He said he had little role to play since the committee was set to plan for the funeral.

“The funeral is not exactly in our hands but that of the funeral committee. I hear there are issues surrounding the funeral funds. And some members are said to have resigned. I cannot go back to the state governor or Federal Government now due to election issues. The governor has done well already,” he said.
