Padding: Akpabio’s hands are clean- Dr. Tafida

In response to recent claims by Senator Abdul Ningi regarding alleged budget padding, Dr. Jibril Tafida, an aide of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has refuted the allegations and cautioned against distracting Akpabio with baseless accusations.

Addressing the media, Dr. Tafida dismissed the notion of N3 trillion budget padding as absurd, emphasizing the lack of credibility in Senator Ningi’s claims due to the absence of verified facts. He criticized Senator Ningi for rushing to the press without thorough verification.

Expressing disappointment in the approach taken by Senator Ningi and his colleagues from the Northern Senators Forum, Dr. Tafida advised that issues be addressed directly with Akpabio rather than through public scrutiny. He stressed the importance of constructive dialogue within the Senate Chambers for effective resolution of concerns.

Furthermore, Dr. Tafida addressed Senator Ningi’s accusations of bias toward Northern Senators and the North, stating that it unfairly portrayed Senate President Akpabio. He highlighted Akpabio’s positive actions, such as preventing the Nigeria Hajj Commission from postponing this year’s Hajj, emphasizing the lack of acknowledgment for these commendable efforts.

Dr. Tafida underscored the need to appreciate individuals like Senate President Akpabio, who demonstrate dedication to serving the nation. He reiterated his disbelief in the plausibility of padding N3 trillion in a budget and urged patience for the committee’s report to provide clarity. Dr. Tafida concluded by affirming Akpabio’s integrity and encouraging a fair assessment of the situation.

65 CSOs Pull out of NLC,TUC Planned Strike to Avoid Anarchy

65 CSOs Pull out of NLC,TUC Planned Strike to Avoid Anarchy

… Wants Labour Unions to do more of Dialogue with FG

Ahead of the commencement of planned nationwide strike by Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC)and the Trade Union Congress, (TUC) ,65 Civil Society Organisations have pulled out with considerations that the strike might stir up anarchy and cause more hardship on citizens.

The Civil Society Organisations under aegis of Coalition of Civil Society Organisations Forum also warned against going the Sudan’s way.

“Any attempt to embark on a nationwide strike during these critical periods of hunger and harsh economy could be hijacked by hoodlums and criminal elements, who have been waiting for the slightest opportunity to unleash terror; disrupt public peace, loot business premises and markets .

On February 16, the NLC had announced a nationwide protest scheduled for February 27 and 28, over the failure to implement the agreements reached on October 2, following the removal of the fuel subsidy.

This decision followed the conclusion of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the federal government regarding the widespread hardship.

The Coalition of the CSOs which disclosed this in a statement jointly signed by Comrade Buba Ibrahim Mohammed and Comrade George Phillips, the Coordinator and Secretary insisted that the strike action will only stir up civil unrest and further worsen the already bad security situation as well as damage the fragile economy.

According the Coalition, the views gathered from some of their members and citizens across the country are that the labour unions are trying to undermine the current Tinubu led administration and create a process for break down of law and order to score cheap political points.

“As Civil Society Organisations,we do understand the depth of economic challenges facing the ordinary citizens, especially the workers, but we cannot fold our arms and support a move that will further damage and threaten our peaceful coexistence.

While stating that it’s not unaware that the labour unions had the constitutional right to make demands and embark on strike to drive home their demands ,it maintained that NLC and TUC should know that Nigeria is already sitting on keg of gun powder that must not be allowed to explode.

“Part of reasons we have refused to join forces with labour unions to create anarchy and cause more hardship for the people . Instead, we are making frantic efforts to meet with federal government to discuss how to amicably resolve the issues at stake.

“We recognise the importance of addressing labour-related concerns and advocating for workers’ rights, we kindly urge the labour unions to explore alternative means of dialogue and negotiation with the relevant authorities.” It further stated .

The group which accused NLC President, Joe Ajaero of pursuing a political agenda, appealed to NLC and TUC members to give the federal government time to implement the minimum wage issue and other demands.

STOP FANNING EMBERS OF ETHNIC WAR OVER ECONOMIC SITUATION IN NIGERIA,Fadojoe ,Appeals To Igbo Youths

STOP FANNING EMBERS OF ETHNIC WAR OVER THE ECONOMIC SITUATION IN NIGERIA!
-Fadojoe (Appeals To Igbo Youths).

The leader of Rescue Movement For New Nigeria aka Rescue The Vulnerable Initiative, Comrade Faduri Oluwadare Joseph popularly called Fadojoe has called on youths from South/East of Nigeria to desist from turning the present economic downturn in Nigeria to an opportunity to take on the entire Yoruba people, thereby fanning embers of ethnic war!

In a video broadcast through his official YouTube channel, the former presidential aspirant under Labour Party, Fadojoe said, that at “this jet age, it’s so sad that we still have generation of some young Nigerians that will still continue to fan embers of tribal war in reaction to the devastating state of our country, turning it to Yoruba vs Igbo media battle.

“No doubt the economy is so hash, no doubt the country is crashing more and more and no doubt we are all talking about it. But the fact still remains that we’ve not been having the best of governance since many years back and the economy of the country keeps nosediving deeper and deeper”.

Stressing further that precisely this 2024 the hardship in our country affects the West, South, North as well as the East. Skyrocketing cost of food and everything is nationwide, and it knows no ethnic group. “So if our country fail woefully, we all fail as a nation: it’s not just the Yoruba people or the Hausa people that fail. And if our government succeed we all succeed as a nation and we will all have a country that we can be proud of and that in future our children can be bold to call their nation.

“Therefore, what we should all focus on should be how to rescue our country from the ‘sit-tight old generation syndrome’ that will use ethnicity, religion, money etc as divide and rule strategy among the youths, so as to keep holding the nation in salary while destroying the future of the same youths they are using ‘divide-and-rule’ scheme to keep ruling over them.

“In the light of this, it’s very important to correct some of our brothers from the South/East that come online to blame the present state of Nigeria only on the Yoruba people. I leave in the United States of America, it will be very wrong of me to blame the problems in America on just the white people. Because if I do that, it’s called racism. I will be seen as a racist.

“On this note I want to appeal to our leaders of South/East extraction to please caution our Igbo brothers that come online to rubbish Yoruba people about the state of our nation. Let us make our criticism constructive and not based on ethnicity.

“I am a Yoruba man and I have criticized this administration more than many people and even more than all the opposition political parties put together. But I ensure my criticism is constructive, with the focus on how to make our dear nation better.

“And the fact remains that there are many of us as Yoruba people that worked assiduously for Peter Obi and millions of Yorubas voted for him (Obi). Also there are many Igbos too that worked for and voted Tinubu. Hence, when you now rubbish an entire race because of the failure of one Yoruba man, then you are also rubbishing those of us who worked for and voted Peter Obi. When many of us lost friends and even some business partners, because of our support for Peter Obi and we didn’t care about that as far as we justify our conscience through our support for Obi.

The activist thus noted that there is no where in the world where only one tribe can win any presidential election without the help of another tribe, likewise there is no way an Igbo man can win a presidential election without support from other tribes. “Therefore those instigating our brothers from South/East to turn the failure of Nigeria to ethnic war are setting them up against winning future presidential election.

“Let’s talk about what is wrong in our country without being tribalistic about it. Because tribalism will continue to divide us the more and do us no good.

“In as much as president Tinubu is not getting it right, we also need to understand that part of the major problems of Nigeria is corruption and we have many corrupt people from the West, South, North and East; both in this administration and previous ones, that also contributed in digging the gulf that the country is sinking into.

“The like of Dr Betta C. Edu, former Honourable Minister, Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management was alleged to have stolen billions within 8 months. Former CBN governor Godwin Emefiele that is still answering to the charges against him. Diezani Alison-Madueke also alleged to have embezzled billions. The oil bunkers in Niger Delta and others that contributed negatively one way or another to the present situation of Nigeria, are they just only Yoruba people or are we not all the Nigerians?

“Prices of tomato and other locally produced food stuff that are going higher, is it the rising dollars that is also responsible? We have people from different tribes and ethnic groups as bank MDs of different banks in Nigeria. And you go to bank to get cash, you can’t get your own money, but in front of the bank and beside the bank, you can get any amount of money from the POS operators. Also you want to get dollar from bank they will tell you it’s not available, yet you can get as much as you need from Bureau De Change. Bua Cement and Dangote cement that they get the raw materials from Nigeria yet the prices are now above what an average Nigerian can afford. Are these perpetrators all of Yoruba extraction?”

“In conclusion, let’s face the problems of the country as Nigerians struggling to liberate our dear nation from the old generation, comprising bad leaders from different parts of Nigeria: and not as Igbo Vs Yoruba ethnic war as they are now such evil discord among the youths that supposed to know better and rise to rescue Nigeria united as one people “

While praising  him for conducting the most peaceful election in Nigeria, especially on the account of rancour free process and people not killed during the elections with considerations that opposition parties won some critical states, it said there is a need to consolidate on the gains rather pains .

“For us as members of Civil Society Organisations, it will amount to mere distractions and attention seeking for anyone  to consider laying a curse on INEC boss . What we expect is a kudos  for the painstaking efforts in the conduct of 2023 elections across the country with remarkable achievements.”

Meanwhile the group said, ” It is totally unfortunate and unfounded for those characters “Prayer warriors “to accuse INEC of selling elections to the highest bidder .It is a total falsehood and Should be disregarded.”

Lamido’s Life of Service and Passion for Education

Lamido’s Life of Service and Passion for Education

By Muhammad Abdu Mago

Leadership is all about action. It is not just holding positions without impacting on people’s lives.

That explains how great leaders are almost always great, because they are simplifiers of difficult tasks and issues.

Their actions cut through arguments, debates and doubt, as they offer solutions everybody can vividly understand and accept.

They always engage in providing services to the people and devout their lives in making other people’s lives better.

For this reason, leaders are seen as individuals who influence and guide others.

Now, why does others engage in providing a Life of service to the people?

Experts are of the view that:Those who engage in such venture do so by engaging in a life of service to the people, as a full time activity. It’s just their mindset.

It isn’t about giving up on their goals, aspirations and desires. For them, it’s about looking at the world and asking themselves how they can make things better for others, hence they engage doing those things (what they believe in), day after day; not for any reason but for the sake of humanity and divine purpose.

Take a look at the recent decision by Dr. Sule Lamido CON, the former Governor of Jigawa State, where he donated to the state government, the mansion he is living in at Bamaina town, and dedicated it to be used by the State owned university Sule Lamido University, situated at Kafin Hausa, after his demise.

All human beings are mortal, everybody will die one day. But those who choose to live on, would want to leave a lasting legacy. As such for Lamido’s love of the people and for his passion in providing quality and moral education, he has chosen to leave an edifice that would outlive him.

Dr. Lamido has chosen to live on. His donation of his marvelous house, his own personal possession to the state government, which would eventually be used as Institute of Islamic Studies and Research, by the beneficiary university, is a great sign of his desire to live on.

It is so fantastic, very insightful and  clearly an aspect of a life of service to the people which would further advance Islamic education and culture in the state and to a large extent, at a global stage.

Service is a central pillar of how Lamido approach this issue, and that remains what will describe him for the rest of his life and even beyond as a great lover of scholarship and development.

Lamido has never being a ‘yes man’. He is living his life with a purpose. He has a vision and a focus with clarity of what he want to achieve. He is a leader who uses his God’s given talent, personal strengths, wealth and skills effectively – for himself, and the society at large.

Living in service for others requires a great deal of self awareness and honesty, because without that energy and drive, one will not be able to serve others the way he want to, and his life might not be impactful on their lives.

For Dr. Sule Lamido, who has been in politics for over five decades and has stuffed himself with a very rich political ideology, and with a pragmatic principle he learned from the tutelage of a political sage and an Icon of transformational leadership, Malam Aminu Kano of blessed memory, the best of life is the one that impact positively on the lives of others, particularly those who are less privileged.

In his over five decades in politics, Lamido had came through wide range of experiences. A mix of very difficult times and a taste of good sides. That perhaps was what strengthen his political growth and determination to serve people rather than become self centered.

In all Allah’s sent scriptures and literature, the concept of leadership is considered one of the most important aspects of social and corporate existence. Some are even of the view that leadership is indeed more important than some main elements of religions. Islamic thoughts is not far off on this.

Lamido, as a leader has useful techniques for problem solving, influencing or convincing, and team building strategies to achieve common goal with general ability to make positive impact in a society under the need for integrity as his bedrock.

So his resolve to doll out the fabulous mansion to a state-owned university in order to further advance the cause of scholarship, research and development, is a clear testimony and of course at the back of his untoward commitment to nurture a culture that is dedicated to excellence and ethical behavior.

He is a charismatic and transformational leader and a pace-setter of sort. It seems, this particular action he started might be the first and hence a lead for others to follow.

As leaders lead because there is work to carry out for people to have a better life, a vision of the future is necessary as demonstrated by Lamido.

Lamido has such qualities in abundance. His leadership style is dynamic. He lead people with the goal of achieving a common goal. That’s how he is serving others by leading and leading others by serving, a fact that clearly demonstrate his love for his religion – Islam and his people and equally encourages him to give out Sadaqah Jariyya – that’s leaving an inheritance that will benefit the people and the giver.

This form of multi-level leadership is highly encouraged in Islam.

With Consciousness of God, Competency, Consultation, and Consideration, Lamido has by this particular donation, inculcates the Islamic philosophy of servant leadership. He has identified the need for advancing Islamic scholarship in the state, the need to address the educational backwardness of the state and also the need to leave a lasting legacy in the form of Sadaqah Jariyya. No doubt, the best reward awaits him eternally.
