How Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu Turned Around Federal Medical Centre Jalingo.

How Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu Turned Around Federal Medical Centre Jalingo.

By Comrade Musa Mohammed

Undoubtedly, the sterling achievements of DR. AISHA SHEHU ADAMU as the Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre Jalingo from March 25th 2020, to date are worthy to celebrate.

Dr. Aisha Adamu’s leadership is at this moment adjudged the best in the history of the health institution.

This statement is confirmed by the majority of staff of the FMC Jalingo.

Her concern from inception of her tenure to date always borders on staff welfarism and improved healthcare services for all. Without mincing word, staffers are living witnesses to an unprecedented improvement her administration had been able to record.

An administrator who has a listening ear and interacts with the union leaders on issues affecting members of staff is surely bond to succeed. Such is the administration of DR. AISHA SHEHU ADAMU and her leadership style. This is described as a trait that distincts her administration from previous ones.

The mantra of Dr. Aisha Adamu is freedom to existing staff Unions which represent staff interest and discuss matters relating to staff welfarism with Management and proffer workable solutions. Instances of staff welfarism, courtesy of her administration include but not limited to; payment of arrears, allowances, regularization of staff appointments, regular promotion and conversion exercise and regular staff training/ development sponsorship other entitlements for the staff.

Speaking on staff welfare, the Medical Director vowed to respect the rights of staffers with equally treatment and promised not to deny them their rights and entitlements.

The rise in healthcare demand of the Nigerian populace glaringly necessitates erections of new structures to accommodate patients giving space for the recent influx of victims of COVID- 19 and other health issues. The current administration has done fantastically well in terms of structural ediffices, such as; RENOVATIONS, ONGOING CONSTRUCTIONS, EQUIPMENTS.
Clinic Building, Library Building, COVID-19 isolation centre and many more.

Her administration has adopted PPP policy to provide an alternative for the patients and interestingly, reports from patients presuppose that the arrangement is superb. Past administrations had made several moves to do this but could not succeed.

Structure were not only built but also equipped with the state- of- the- facilities which ease delivery of medical services. Equipments were purchased to ensure that quality healthcare services for all and sundry are affordable and accessible.

It is equally worthy of note to commend the collaborative and concerted effort of the Hospital’s Management, the State and Federal Governments in the management of COVID-19 pandemic. Successful management of the COVID-19 endemic ascribed to the management skill of the Medical Director who left no stone unturned in seeing to it that Covid patients received prompt medical attention.

The Medical Director has also promoted religious tolerance, peaceful coexistence and industrial harmony.

In less than two weeks time eligible voters will cast their votes for the presidential election, a coming exercise that compiled prominent Nigerians appeal for Peaceful and Credible conduct of the election.

In a jointly signed statement issued to our correspondent under the umbrella of Nigerian Working Group on Peacebuilding and Governance Cardinal John Onaiyekan, General Martin Luther Agwai (rtd), Prof. Attahiru Jega and Ambassador Fatima Balla

Other members of the group are Dr. Nguyan Feese, Prof. Jibrin Ibrahim, Dr. Usman Bugaje, Dr. Aisha Murtala Muhammed – Oyebode and Dr. Chris Kwaja said the members of the Working Group on Peacebuilding and Governance in Nigeria, composed of civic and religious leaders, wish to lend their voices to this important, exciting and naturally tension-filled period.

While calling on Nigerians to prepare well in casting their franchise right on the coming Saturday 25th February 2023 presidential election, the group said
one of the most monumental markers of any democracy that citizens will exercise their rights and responsibilities to choose their next president, Governors and Legislators.

The group therefore said Nigeria’s 24 years of restored democracy amidst multiparty constitutional rule there is every good reason to be proud of the democracy gains.

“Our country has made remarkable progress toward strengthening and consolidating our democracy.

“Just as in 2015, we achieved the country’s first- ever peaceful presidential transition from an incumbent to an opposition candidate, the 2023 election provides yet another opportunity for a peaceful transition of power through a credible process. We are however concerned about worrying signs that our democratic culture is still plagued by major challenges.” They said

They however worried that politicians with vested interest are deploying undemocratic tactics to plaque the country into confusion as there are significant signs.

“There are significant signs that many in the political class are still deploying violence and purveying fake, hate and dangerous messages.

“The culture of vote buying remains a significant threat to the ability of citizens to vote for credible and competent candidates in spite of the on-going currency change crisis which might make citizens even more vulnerable to inducement.

“The political, social and economic environment in the country is being poisoned by ill timed policy measures such as the Naira redesign policy and rising tension between the Presidency, the Central Bank and State Governors while the cash crunch is crippling the economy and increasing hardship.
The National Working Group is concerned about the dangers posed by the anti-social and anti-democratic actions of some of the political actors and calls on citizens to be even more determined in working towards defending the peoples’ right to a free, fair and credible election.

“We call on all election stakeholders to remain vigilant in ensuring that we have peaceful and credible electoral outcomes determined by the choice of citizens.” The statement read

They also called on stakeholders of Nigeria election to as a matter of urgency ensure that the elections are held in accordance with the applicable laws, rules, and regulations, and based on the country’s common respect for every citizen’s humanity and for the country’s democracy.

“INEC, the political parties and their supporters, and Nigeria’s security forces have a special responsibility in the period leading up to the elections, during the voting, and in the aftermath.

“Political candidates, party officials, and supporters must avoid behavior and actions that would undermine the credibility of the electoral process or lead to a breach of peace.

“Security agencies must uphold the principles of professionalism, neutrality and respect for human rights at all times in the discharge of their duties.

“Citizens must ensure that in making their choices, they remain focused on the competence and integrity of candidates not the inducement some of them may offer.” The statement further read

House of Reps: Kabba City Council Ministers Endorse Rev. Emmanuel Olorunmagba

GREAT ENDORSEMENT OF REV EMMANUEL OLORUNMAGBA FOR HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES BY KABBA CITY COUNCIL OF MINISTERS

It was another giant stride today during the meeting of Kabba City Council of Ministers held in Our Saviour Anglican Church, Kabba as the council of Ministers unanimously endorsed Rev. Emmanuel Olorunmagba as the candidate to vote for House of Representatives, Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency of Kogi State.

After listening to Rev Emmanuel Olorunmagba, and the positive responses from the highly elated Ministers, the Chairman of the council, Ven. S. O. Folorunsho (Rtd) said “before today, we only had Peter Obi to vote as president, we didn’t have candidate to vote for House of Representatives, but you, Rev Emmanuel Sunday Olorunmagba, have been adopted as our candidate for House of Representatives!” The entire pastors happily applauded the assertion.

The pastors present demanded for more copies of ballot specimen indicating how to vote for Rev Emmanuel Olorunmagba of National Rescue Movement (NRM) for Representatives and how to vote for Peter Obi of Labour Party for President. And they promised to take the message to their respective churches, that we need the real righteous in the parliament. Hence, in addition to prayers they said they will add work by mobilizing their circle of influence to vote for Rev Emmanuel and Peter Obi. Adding that it was in those days some people were deceived that politics is of the devil and as some Christians decided to leave politics for the devil, the devil decided to fix his children in positions of power and destroyed the entire system as well as working against the Church.

Pastor Dave Dan who has known Rev Emmanuel for over 30 years testified that the council of Ministers have made the right choice by endorsing Rev. Emmanuel.

Appreciating the Ministers Rev Emmanuel promised quality representatives that everyone who supported him will ever be proud of. And that it’s the time for the rescue mission.

Tinubu/ /Shettima: New DG of Amalgamated Support Groups Urges Aggrieved Members to Sheath Sword ,Work for Victory

Tinubu/ /Shettima: New DG of Amalgamated Support Groups Urges Aggrieved Members to Sheath Sword ,Work for Victory

In view of the crack in the support groups rooting for the All Progressives Congress party Flagbearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, the new Director-General of Amalgamated Support Groups  ,Engineer Kailani Muhammad has asked the aggrieved members to sheath their swords and be united  to ensure that the party wins the 2023 presidential elections.

He expressed optimism that the Tinubu Presidency is going to be a catalyst and replication of the unfinished good works of the Buhari administration, in terms of economy diversification, most especially, agriculture.

Kailani who also the National Coordinator of Tinubu Shettima Network (TSN) however, disclosed that in last few weeks ,there seems to be a temporary setback that has encircled our sister organization, the APC Amalgamated Support Group.

He lamented  “Sadly, if this development is left unattended, it may have the capacity to jilt our combined desire to foist a common front towards the Presidential election. I have said it before and will say it again and again; that we need all hands-on deck at this critical period.”

Addressing members of the groups in Abuja on Monday on reasons to be united at this critical period ,  Engineer Kailani Muhammad  said,”As a leader, I have to wade into the issue when a Group of the warring factions approached me. I had to put a lot of things into consideration before I accepted to serve as Acting -Director-General of the APC Amalgamated.

He further explained,”Having listened to both sides, it became obvious that there are issues capable of undermining our efforts if not addressed positively and urgently too.

“There was no other way to save the situation, rather than getting myself involved and accepting to serve. My role as Ag. DG of the APC Support Group though, will be to make amends and move our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) forward.

“Let it be noted that both sides have over time, worked diligently on the roadmap to the success of our Presidential Candidate, Bola Tinubu and his Vice, Kashim Shettima. Therefore, we cannot allow ourselves to be beclouded by minor squabbles in this project.”

While revealing reasons he accepted to serve as Ag. DG of APC Amalgamated,Eng. Kailani said, “It is expedient to find a level playing ground for both leaders for them to work together in harmony. I have confidence to serve in the vacuum, because my job is made easier by the fact that I know the personalities involved as individuals and as political associates over a long period of time.

“This is the more reason why the two factions have to sheath their swords, cooperate with the new leadership to find a new compass for the APC Amalgamated Support Groups.

We don’t have the luxury of dissipating our energies on internal wranglings. We must form a common front and work for the success of our principal, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima.” He added .

He therefore appealed to Dr. Nasir Muhammad Ladan and Hajiya Maryam Muhammad Danjaki, to allow peace to reign and  come together to work as a team to ensure the victory of our party.

Breaking: Supreme Court strikes out NNPP case against Uba Sani, INEC

Breaking: Supreme Court strikes out NNPP case against Uba Sani, INEC

The appeal filed at the Supreme Court against the decisions of the Court of Appeal and Federal High Court, Kaduna was dismissed by the Supreme Court. This is coming barely a day after Kaduna High Court equally dismissed the site calling for the disqualification of the lawmaker from being the standard bearer of the Kaduna APC’s governorship seat, in the forthcoming elections.

The latest verdict was confirmed by Counsel to the APC, Sule Shuaibu Esq, who is also a former Kaduna State NBA Chairman.

It will be recalled that the NNPP had filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Kaduna, challenging INEC over acceptance and uploading the names of all APC Candidates in Kaduna State for allegedly violating provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.

The Federal High Court and indeed the Court of Appeal, kaduna Division both dismissed the suit and appeal.

With the judgment of the Supreme Court this morning, no political Party has the locus to sue another Political Party in pre-election cases.

The APC governorship flagbearer has so far won all suits challenging his eligibility to fly the governorship flag of the party this year.

FIRS AND ITS HISTORIC N10.1 TRILLION

FIRS AND ITS HISTORIC N10.1 TRILLION

When the music is good to our ears, we dance. And if we cannot dance, then we clap. Or we do both!

This piece is not to sing the praises of a government agency without rhyme or reason. It is a fact based opinion piece on the historic feat of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) in recording its highest ever tax collection of N10.1 trillion in a single year.

The first indication that FIRS could cross the N10 trillion mark came in September last year when it collected N7.5 trillion in tax in nine months to surpass its entire 2021 figure of N6.4 trillion.

It was at that point that it became obvious that the reforms introduced by Muhammed Nami within a year of assuming office as FIRS Executive Chairman in 2019, had began to yield dividends.

Indeed the fruits of those reforms began to show in 2021, one year after the global lockdown caused by COVID-19, with a tax collection figure of N6.4 trillion, which at the time was the highest ever revenue recorded by the Federal tax agency.

Even at that, the 2022 target of N10.4 trillion looked like a tall dream. Not because of capacity or the lack of it, but because adding N4trillion to the historic figure of the previous year simply looked unattainable at a time much of the world was still feeling the impact of a global economic crisis.

But surprisingly, the FIRS chairman, like a man with a gift of clairvoyancy had told the House of Representatives Committee on Finance at a public hearing on the 2022-2024 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), sometime in August 2021, that the agency was projecting to collect tax revenue of over N10 trillion for 2022.

And that was exactly what happened with the 2022 Performance update showing an unprecedented figure of N4.09 trillion from the oil sector and N5.96 trillion from non-oil to bring the total collection for the year to N10.1 trillion.

So what were the factors responsible for the two back-to-back record collection feats?

A look at what Nami brought to the table after assuming office may provide some insight into what has been happening in the last 3 years.

He came into FIRS with a private sector background and, I dare say, mentality and immediately set out what he wanted to achieve in a four-point agenda: to rebuild the FIRS institutional framework; to improve collaboration with stakeholders; to make the FIRS a customer-centric institution and to make the agency a data-centric institution.

These were the pegs on which the historic feat could be hung especially as the

reforms played major roles in breaching the N10 trillion revenue collection mark.

“The reforms introduced at different times from 2020 are gradually yielding fruits. By the close of 2022, the Service had fully restructured the administration of the Service for maximum efficiency and achieved internal cohesion such that all functional units are working in unison towards the achievement of set goals.

“As a result of conducive environment created for staff, officers of the Service are pulling their weight on the global stage with international recognitions and awards.

“The Service had also automated most of the administrative and operational processes. A major leap was the full deployment of the TaxPro Max for end-to-end administration of taxes in June 2021. The module for the automated TCC went live 1st January 2023 while taxpayers had already downloaded over 1,000 TCCs this year without having to visit FIRS office,” the report read.

It is interesting to note that the report also stated that the N10.1 trillion does not include tax waived on account of various tax incentives granted under different laws which according to FIRS amounted to N1,805,040,163,008.

This is certainly a huge figure that shows the possibility of the agency doing better not only in the 2023 financial year but also in coming ones.

In the midst of all these is the long standing vow by President Muhammadu Buhari to break Nigeria’s over reliance on oil and from all indications the FIRS management has keyed into it with its performance especially in the last two years.

This ongoing effort to wean the country from its over dependence on revenue from oil is a major reason why Nigeria did not suffer the full effect of the drop in global oil prices.

Today, the revenue projection for 2023 showed that 78% of total revenue is coming from the non-oil sector and of course the FIRS is bound to be a major contributor.

And this is visible from how the agency has shown, for two years running, that it has the necessary capacity to be the lead contributor to the good performance of the non-oil sector.

But more importantly is that FIRS has shown that it will be instrumental in any effort to address the country’s revenue challenge.
