Adamawa Supplementary Election: PDP Youths Laud Makinde for Bold Steps to Ensure PDP’s Victory

Adamawa Supplementary Election: PDP Youths Laud Makinde for Bold Steps to Ensure PDP’s Victory

Group under aegis Northern People Democratic Party (PDP) Youths commended Oyo State Governor ,Mr. Seyi Makinde for the bolds Steps he took to ensure the hard won victory during the just concluded  Adamawa Supplementary elections.

According to the group, the overt efforts of Governor Makinde did not only ensure victory for Governor Fintiri ,but also worked to provide peace and tranquility in the state after the results of the election reflected the yearning of the voters in the Adamawa State.

Recalled Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde did appeal to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to do the right thing by declaring the authentic winner of the governorship election in Adamawa State and it was done.

“We happy to state here that all the Criminality and brigandage by the Adamawa and other Abuja APC power brokers were halted and the right thing done to ensure the attempted stolen mandate was recaptured”.The group stated.

In a statement signed by Hon. Ibrahim Ahmadu, Coordinator of the Northern Peoples Democratic Party Youths and made available to journalists in Kaduna, the group which commended Adamawa voters for protecting the votes said , ” The great people of Adamawa and Oyo state will continue to hail Makinde for fighting and protecting democracy.”

While commending the Independent Electoral Commission for its resolute stands to suspend the Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner for  the hijacked electoral process and declaring false results  ,the group noted ,”At this juncture, we can’t but acknowledge the sterling qualities of  Governor Makinde, who has proved to the party and all Nigerians that with the right approach and principles, anyone can get it right.”

The statement further reads: “We also laud Makinde’s overwhelming decision to make education free of charge to the great people of Oyo state without any iota of bias.

“Interms of Agriculture,we are aware that he has performed excellently well  that he can’t be compared to all his colleagues across the Nigeria.”

“We salute his innate qualities and qualifications that stood him out conspicuously, where moral decadence are freely undertaken. He has proven that he is a tested and trusted leader of sort .

A mild drama played out on Sunday at the Adamawa State Collation Centre in Yola, when the State Resident Electoral Commissioner Hudu Yunusa Ari controversially declared Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner of the polls.

The action has since been condemned by many political parties, concerned Nigerians as well as Civil Society Organisations, with many calling for Ari’s arrest. The situation forced INEC to suspend the collation and ordered Ari to stay away from all activities of the electoral umpire and the election in Adamawa.

A day after the incident, Governor Makinde met with his Adamawa counterpart Governor Umaru Fintiri when he paid him a solidarity visit at the Government House in Yola.

Makinde said the illegal declaration of the APC candidate as the winner of the election is unimaginable and a shame on the person of Ari.

He applauded INEC for a job well done in Oyo State and expressed confidence that the electoral umpire will prove its neutrality in the Adamawa process as the whole world is watching.

Uba Sani: It’s A New Dawn.

By Comrade Musa Mohammed

‘Just like Abraham Lincoln said: “Elections belong to the people. It’s their decision”, Kaduna People have indeed spoken!

The victory and emergence of Sen. Uba Sani as Governor-elect, the victory represents a new dawn in Kaduna’s polity.

Let me congratulate Distinguished Senator Uba Sani on your historic victory at the Governatorial election, through a process which has been adjudged as free, fair and credible by both local and international observers. Indeed, your victory, on the basis of ‘One Man, One Vote’, represents a new dawn in the democratic governance of our great state.

The spread of your victory across the length and breadth of Kaduna state shows your acceptance as the man the people of Kaduna state needs to continue with the good governance and Leadership.

Despite the smear campaigns against your person and candidature and the attempts to polarize our dear state along ethnic and religious lines, the citizens made a bold statement by speaking through their ballots that you are, indeed, the governor they want at this time.

I have implicit confidence that, with you as governor, kaduna will no doubt get a true and selfless leadership needed to drive the much-desired change at the centre, which will start the process of re-engineering the state and halt some little drift.

Your pedigree as a Senator representing kaduna Central and the indelible imprint you left are still being felt across the country. Your doggedness and victory at the polls will serve as an inspiration to many, never to give up on a dream that is worth living.

We congratulate all the people of Kaduna state on this historic victory, because this victory belongs not to Uba Sani or the APC alone, but to all the people of the state.

May 29: Reinstate sacked EFCC boss, Magu, APC chieftain appeals to Tinubu

May 29: Reinstate sacked EFCC boss, Magu, APC chieftain appeals to Tinubu

From Noah Ebije, Kaduna

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in Kaduna State, Yusuf Aliyu, has called on the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, to review the circumstances surrounding the sacking of the erstwhile Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, on assumption of office on May 29 for the sake of posterity.

Aliyu said it was not too late to revisit the sacking of Magu, hence he decided to call on the President-elect, Tinubu, to constitute a committee to review the report of the Justice Salami Panel of Inquiry kicked out the former EFCC boss.

In a statement issued to newsmen, the APC chieftain wondered how Magu was sacked without letting the Nigerian public know his offences even though a panel of inquiry was instituted to try him.

“Justice has a long memory and no matter the time it takes, the truth is never stale hence the call on the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, to constitute a committee to review the report of the Justice Salami Panel of Inquiry against Magu.

“It’s not enough to accuse someone of corruption and abuse of office and yet the recommendations for his sack are not made public.

“In a democracy, there has to be transparency in every process of government and for someone who was sacked for alleged abuse of office,it’s critical for Nigerians to know the extent of the allegations and how far they had influenced the conduct of Magu while leading the EFCC.

“Magu should not be made a scapegoat by some powerful persons just to simply settle scores due to perceived differences or ego trip”. The statement said.

The APC chieftain noted there were strong accusations that Magu was sacked because of clash of interest and not necessarily about any offence in his conduct while in office.

“For the issue surrounding Magu’s sack to rest, the president-elect has to unravel the remote causes that led to his removal as EFCC Chair. This is the only way to protect public officials from set-ups and gang-ups arising from personal differences.

“In the interest of fairness and justice, Magu should be given a clean bill of health if indeed he is not found wanting and for the public to know that he is as clean as a whistle”. The statement added

Arrest, Prosecute Those Calling For Interim Govt, Arewa Youth Forum Tasks Security Agencies

Arrest, Prosecute Those Calling For Interim Govt, Arewa Youth Forum Tasks Security Agencies

*Plans 2m man-march in support of Tinubu

*Warns against molestation of Northerners in South

*Insist they are ready to return any negative attack with potent positive reaction

The Arewa Youth Forum (AYF) has warned those calling for coup or interim national government ahead of the May 29 inauguration of President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make a retreat, while tasking security agencies to arrest and prosecute those threatening the nation’s democracy.

AYF made the call in a statement signed by its acting national president, Ahmed Mohammed Zagi after a meeting held on yesterday, April 16, 2023 in Kaduna.

“We are also calling on all our security agencies to be alive to their responsibilities. It amounts to treason for anybody to call for truncating our democracy by whatever guises, be it Interim National Government let alone the call for a military coup.

“Perpetrators must be arrested and be brought to book with immediate effect!Meanwhile, arrangements for the handover ceremonies are in full swing,” the group said.

They insisted that, “the President-Elect will, by His Grace, take his Oath of Office as President of Federal Republic of Nigeria on May 29th, 2023,” they added.

The group said that the 2023 General elections exercise has come and gone with a few Bye-Elections.

” It is our position that this elections is by far the most credible, fair and freest Elections in our history as a nation.

“We at the Arewa Youth Forum, significantly note that the elections were so credible that it threw up some upsets in our otherwise settled demography. For the first time, 20 sitting Governors lost their states, mostly those of the ruling party.

“Seven Governors who sought elections into the Senate failed to scale through.

“This has never happened in the history of Nigeria. In addition and more evidently, the President-Elect lost his home state (Lagos State); the sitting President lost his home State (Katsina State); the Director-General of the Campaign lost his home state (Plateau State); the ruling Party Chairman lost his h (Nasarawa State); the Chairman of the ruling Party’s Governor Forum lost his home State (Kebbi State) and the ruling party lost some of its traditional strong holds like Yobe State, Kaduna State and Kano State respectively,” AYF said.

They explained that all these go to show that it was a keenly contested election and one of the most credible in our history.

“Also, and more heartwarming is the fact that the 2023 General elections has provided a level playing field for all political parties in such a manner that the APC and the leading opposition PDP had to struggle to win and other fringe political parties made huge and surprising gains by causing upsets in some areas.

“Political parties aside the two (2) major ones, the APC and the PDP have not been pocketed and relegated to the dustbin of history, their efforts have been allowed to manifest through the ballot and they have won seats in an unprecedented manner.

“The reports of some irregularities and violence in some polling units as reported, could not have affected the overall outcome of the elections too. There are 176,974 polling units in Nigeria and infractions and violence were recorded in less than one per cent of these units. How could these have affected the overall results of the elections?

“Whilst we look forward to an era when there would be no single casualty during elections in Nigeria, however, the statistics shows that 2023 recorded the lowest casualty rates ever. During the 1964/65 elections about 200 deaths were recorded as a result of election violence; 1993 election recorded 100 deaths; 1999 election recorded 80 deaths; 2003 polls recorded 100 deaths and 2007 polls recorded 300 deaths.

“The 2011 polls recorded 800 deaths, the 2015 polls recorded 100 deaths and the 2019 polls recorded 150 deaths. However, the 2023 polls recorded no more than 28 deaths as a result of election violence. So, the claim that this is the “worst” election so far is totally unfounded and baseless,” they pointed out.

They therefore, commended Professor Mahmud Yakubu for leading the INEC to display professionalism, sincerity of purpose and unquestionable integrity by delivering what they described as the best and keenly contested elections so far.

The AYF congratulated the President-elect His Excellency Jagaban Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice president-elect Kashim Shettima, and indeed other elected Governors, members of the Federal and state Assemblies.

“We dare say, Nigerians voted for them and expect them to govern in such a manner that selfless and pro-active delivery of Democracy dividends shall be on display moving forward.

“Conversely, we call on those that lost to accept defeat in the most honourable manner because Elections are contests like in sports, all contestants cannot win but only a few that the electorate decide they desire to serve them win at the end.

“Moving forward, our laws have provided for settled means by which election disputes are resolved. The aggrieved parties have taken advantage of this remedy by filing their cases in Court.

“We urge them to have faith in our judicial system and desist from spreading false tales about our election across the world. The courts are there to adjudicate on grievances as the constitution provide,” they advised.

AYF said that they are following with keen interest the unfolding anti Democracy activities, whereby Politicians that lost Elections and their cohorts are making extremely dangerous divisive, unguarded, outrightly false claims that this Elections was not credible, free and fair.

“Their vociferous agitations by themselves and their agents in the media seeking global attention and sympathy so that they can be provided with foreign funds, visas to stay in countries that claim to be Nigeria’s friends but work against its interests, is very divisive, unfortunate and treasonable.

“To these people, we say ENOUGH IS DEFINITELY ENOUGH! We don’t have any country but Nigeria and we shall expose, as well as face all negative anti Democracy elements within the political class and outside it,; as we are presently making preparations to organize a Youth driven Two million (2M) man march in the three Geo-political zones of Northern Nigeria in support of the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu /Kashim Shettima Presidency because Nigerians have spoken through the Ballot boxes and we shall resist all anti Democracy forces calling for and working towards an interim government or military intervention and fight them to a standstill,” they warned.

Meanwhile, the group further warned that they will not also accept the undue molestation of any Northerner for whatever reasons, anywhere in Nigeria as it happened in the past in some parts of the South.

“We are ready to return any negative attack with equally or more potent positive reaction that will counter it forthwith.

“We remain committed to the unity and corporate existence of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” they assured.

Adamawa Supplementary Election: Declaration of Results by REC Amounts to Civilian Coup -Sen. Shehu Sani

… Commends INEC for Suspending Collation of Results

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Sani has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for taking the bold step to suspend the collation of the Adamawa State supplementary governorship poll.

According to the Former lawmaker, a situation, where the Resident Electoral Commission declared the APC governorship candidate the winner of the election as against the Returning Officer while the election process is still on “is equivalent to a civilian coup.”

Sen. Shehu Sani who disclosed  this in a swift reaction to the what he termed  ‘Ilegal declaration” by Adamawa  Resident Electoral Commissioner in a statement personally signed and made available to journalists in Kaduna today commended Professor Mahmud Yakubu and the INEC for prompt intervention.

He further stated ,”It was obvious that the REC was out to truncate democracy in the state and by extension Nigeria if his action was  allowed unchecked .

He expressed joy that the statement signed by the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education, Barrister Festus Okoye ,where the electoral umpire  slammed the action of the Adamawa REC, saying it usurps the power of the Returning Officer is highly appreciated.

Noting that the good step about the  statement is that it  declared the announcement ,”… null, void and of no effect. Consequently, the collation of results of the supplementary election is hereby suspended.”

Senator Shehu Sani’s  Statement further reads: ” The declaration by Adamawa REC is an equivalent of a civilian coup.

“The action of the Rec stands condemnable. Our democracy can’t survive if we condone such brazen act of criminality and brigandage.

He however, said it not enough to summon the REC and other perpetrators but also advised that  ,”The REC and the security men, who perpetrated the acts must be prosecuted.

While stressing  that “Our political culture and attitude to election needs chemotherapy,he noted , “The Dangerous trend in our electoral system has gone beyond the culture of Violence,Vote buying and falsification of results to the most obnoxiously and brazenly crude phase of taking over the collation center, seizing the Mic and illegally declaring the results of an election.”

HARD-WON DEMOCRACY, 2023 GENERAL ELECTION AND THE INTERIM GOVERNMENT.

HARD-WON DEMOCRACY, 2023 GENERAL ELECTION AND THE INTERIM GOVERNMENT.

By Comrade Musa Mohammed

Why are some misguided elements planning or hoping for interim government in Nigeria following the messy elections of the year.

It’s now 24 years after the Nigerian military handed over political power to civilians, not many people wish to have it back in the usurped executive and legislative roles.

And, in fairness to it, some of its top functionaries have been assuring Nigerians lately that theirs is to provide support for the police and boost internal security anytime they’re called upon to do so at this volatile point in the nation’s democratic journey.

Keeping faith with those briefs, in the face of electoral frustrations still simmering among a sizable part of the populace, would guarantee more respect for our soldiers and give the country enough space and time to deepen its hard-won democracy.

Suggestion(s) for interim government is being made to look like some kind of mutiny, treason, coup plot or anti-state activity that cannot be tolerated in Nigeria because, it is said, interim government is not in the Nigerian Constitution! How farfetched, dogmatic and opinionated! Indeed, it is being broadcast that interim government is anti-Nigerian Constitution and cannot be allowed in Nigeria!

I was surprised when i saw people took their protestations against the outcomes of the recent federal and state elections to the Defence Headquarters in Abuja,

Those who were surprised by the brashness of that desperate crowd may still be treated to other awkward dramas before the May 29, 2023 handover date.

The plot being pursued by these entrenched interests as not only an aberration but a mischievous way to set aside the constitution and undermine civil rule as well as plunge the country into crisis.

The illegality is totally unacceptable in a democracy and to the peace-loving Nigerians.

No matter how strongly anyone feels about the results of the February 25 and March 18 elections, deliberately pushing for something clearly beyond the reach of the constitution at this point would be unpatriotic, reckless and risky. No right-thinking person or responsible country stands to gain from such gambling.

Seek Legal Redress If You’re Not Satisfied with Election and Eschew Violence, EU, AU, Commonwealth, ECOWAS Missions Tell Political Parties.

“We call on all those with grievances to address disputes through prescribed legal channels.”

Presenting their preliminary reports on the Presidential/National Assembly Elections, the European Union, African Union, Commonwealth, ECOWAS Missions to the 2023 Nigeria’s Election while admitting that this election was better than past elections.

Those (misguided elements) organising to thwart democracy in the country to retract from their devious schemes and orchestrations will not succeed by the grace of Almighty God.

I think such a treasonable offence should be tackled with a mere appeal to the suspects to see reason, instead of arresting them for proper investigation and possible prosecution.

The gravity of the accusations levelled against the president-in-waiting and his party, there’s absolutely no reason why the normal judicial course shouldn’t be followed to its logical conclusion. Thankfully, the aggrieved parties who initiated the litigation are still on it. We can hope and press that the courts realise the sensitivity of the moment and commit due diligence to their duties. When Nigerians see that justice and fairness are well served, they’ll embrace peace.

The right to protest must be religiously protected by every responsible government and this right should not be obfuscated with any laws or policy that would make a protester think twice before enjoying such rights. Indeed one of the greatest benefits of democracy is the freedom that every member of the society is bequeathed.

I unblinkingly support every and any Nigerian who has the courage and goodwill to speak the minds of the people, no matter whose ox is gored. Furthermore, it’s extremely crucial to point out that we arrived our current political climate owing to great and selfless minds who were wiling to be tagged enemy of the state all in a bid to wrestle power from the oppressive military regimes.

The elements planning or hoping for interim government in Nigeria should be arrested, prosecuted, and jailed for treason.

Alleged NNPCL N20bn payment to ghost consultants, NYCN got it wrong

Alleged NNPCL N20bn payment to ghost consultants, NYCN got it wrong

Apparently angry over what it termed Fictitious and unfounded publication by online platform , the  Promoters of Good Governance in Oil and Gas Sector said Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) story about  alleged payment of 20 Billion Naira to ghost consultants by management of National Nigerian Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) is absolutely wrong .

According to the statement signed by Alhaji Muhammad Salis,National Chairman, Promoters of Good Governance In Oil & Gas Sector , the story is no doubt a figment of the imagination of the writer, as it lacks verifiable source and authenticity.

…Read full press statement by the Group

It is with with utmost dismay we read a report by an online platform which alleges payment of N20bn to ghost consultants by the management of NNPCL.

The story is no doubt a figment of the imagination of the writer, as it lacks verifiable source and authenticity.

From my experience with the  NNPCL, and for the benefits of hindsight, the organization do relate only with registered and verifiable companies that meet global standard.

The allegation by the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria as presented by an online media platform, is fictitious, grievous unfounded and was only aimed at distracting the positive progress if the biw improved company, while tarnishing the good image of the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mele Kolo Kyari, who is known for his  transparency, uprightness, dedication and patriotism.

Mele Kolo Kyari is no doubt a compendium of transparency in the oil and gas sector and has remained so in his many years in the field of oil and gas sector.

The last thing Kyari would ever allow, is illegality to occur under his watch. He is a stickler of transparency and accountability.

When Kyari emerged as CEO of the NNPCL, the oil and gas sector begun to witness robust transformations and there was growing hope and confidence building among stakeholders, which some disgruntled elements are now hell bent to tarnish, using remotely faceless civil society organisations that are not conversant with the goings on in the sector.

One would have hoped that, instead of dissipating energies aimed at destroying the good work of the CEO, by the NYCN and their paymasters, their attention should rather be set on how to make the oil and gas sector the best for the country, by joining hands with the Mele Kyari led management that charts a new course in the oil and gas sector of the country.

For the avoidance of doubt, the first measure introduced by the Kyari-led management team was his agenda entitled: Transparency, Accountability and Performance Excellence (TAPE). And this agenda was aimed at turning around the moribund organisation and not to encourage illegality, either through dubious practices, lack of transparency or lack of accountability.

It was on this premise, the President, Muhammad Buhari saw the merit and competence in Kyari and thus reappointed him to turn around the ‘moribund’ organization, which he has started since his first appointment.

In all his years as CEO, Kyari had always aimed at changing the negative perception of the organisation, while keeping abreast with the global best practices.

Now that the nation’s oil and gas sector has started getting out of the woods with a glimmer of hope for the country, a pocket of armchair critics are busy promoting sentimental ill feelings to destroy the good work, using faceless organizations to achieve their negative objectives.

For those who know the CEO too well, knew that Kyari would never join issues with them either in the pages of newspapers or on any media platform.

But as NNPCL, under Kyari is making waves in the oil and gas industry by keeping to its mandate which is making the sector functional in the best interest of Nigerian citizens and the country at large, we feel duty bound to correct the erroneous impression of calling  him to step aside, as presented by the NYCN civil society organisation. To say the least, the call is uncalled-for, misleading and unpatriotic.

As promoter of accountability and transparency, Kyari has been reputed at welcoming every oversight by the legislative body, even without notice and invitations from the lawmakers. He always clarified issues at every invitation but would never succumb to the antics of those who are out to destroy his good works.

If the calls for his stepping aside are sincere, why can’t the NYCN and their paymasters follow due process instead of planning to cause commotion in the country?

The silent achievements being recorded in the organization, which many thought were impossible to occur, have written Kyari’s name in gold.

Of course, the category of people who sees nothing good in the giant strides as initiated by the Chief Executive Officer are doing so in constant fears that their negative ways of doing things were over, hence, are now calling for the head of the CEO instead of following due process to channel their grievances, if any.

What make the Mele Kyari leadership very unique is his handling and the opening of the books of NNPC in a way never seen as a means of ensuring transparency and accountability in the country with constant financial reporting.

Therefore those calling for Kyari’s head because of what they perceived as irregularities in handling and alleged manipulation of the fuel subsidy, should avoid causing commotion in the country, while using disgruntled groups in achieving their nefarious plans.

So far, Mele Kyari has written his name in gold. He has chart a new course in the oil and gas sector of the country and the sector can never forget him in a hurry.

As an outstanding personality, a humble and visionary leader, who has zero tolerance for indiscipline, corruption and lawlessness, Kyari sleeps and wakes up with performance indices and the principles of working for his country. Hence, those uncomfortable with his leadership style are bound to fail woefully, as no slur or mud could stick to his unblemished reputation.
