2023 Elections: Makarfi Ambassadors Warn Youths Against Selling Votes

2023 Elections: Makarfi Ambassadors Warn Youths Against Selling Votes

… Urges Electorate to Vote PDP from Top to Bottom for Better Nigeria

As the forthcoming presidential elections draw closer, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) support Group under umbrella of Makarfi Ambassadors has charged the Nigerian youths to shun money politics and acts inimical to success of the election exercises.

The group which, warned against voting along ethic;tribal or religious sentiments, asked youths not support any candidate because  such is  either from a tribe or has given money as inducement .

“Money politics is the strongest tool of retrogression ,thus youths must avoid selling their votes for cheap money that would have effect on their live and future generation.

“Don’t Support a candidate because he has the character and vision to take Nigeria out of the woods and make us proud citizens of a functional nation.” It emphasised .

The group in a press statement jointly signed by Mr. Abdullahi Ahmed – Coordinator on General-Matters and Engr. Bolade Aina – Coordinator Planning/Strategy,  said now that the February 25, presidential elections are  around the corner, it’s important that the youths become political  conscious of taking their destiny in their hands by voting the People’s Democratic Party from top to bottom .

Stating, “The PDP Flagbearer, Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and his running mate,Governor Ifeanyi Okowa are a combination designed to rescue Nigeria from shackles of ravaging insecurity caused Boko Haram and  banditry; dwindling economy, CBN reckless as well as  bad governance .

The statement  further reads: “It’s incontrovertible that  the  PDP era between 1999 to 2015 was a period Nigerians enjoyed the most flourishing economy; good educational system , sound health care delivery systems , gradual industrial growth  and agricultural development .

“We can authoritatively promise Nigerians that the future will brighter under PDP if it wins the Presidential Elections. No gain saying the difference was crystal clear during the reign of PDP as the ruling party .”

On Kaduna Guber race , the Makarfi Ambassadors threw its weight behind the PDP candidate, Hon. Isa Ashiru Kudan and his running mate Dr. John Ayuba .

According to the group, Kaduna State has experience to much of anti-people policies and can’t afford to vote the same  ruling party APC that has brought so much pains to the citizens in the last seven years to continue .

“We can outrightly trace the high level of insecurity in the state to the collapse of Chiefdoms; demolition of markets areas  , sacking of workers and failure to their pensions and gratuities.

“These political anomalies can never happen under the reign of PDP in Kaduna State .We therefore call on  our voters to shine their eyes and vote PDP into power again and  enjoy a guaranteed good  governance with human face.”

However, it urged the entire citizens of Kaduna State and Nigerians to restrain from the double stance of APC andbnot to cajoled  after sponsoring unfriendly bill and debunking it for parochial advantage at edge of electioneering course.

Osun: Evolution throwback?

(Published in THE NATION on February 12, 2023)

Defined in general terms, Sociology refers to the scientific understanding and interpretation of social actions. With this in mind, that the Nigerian society consists of very poor people, both in material and spiritual essence is no longer news! Arising from the above, that poverty of ideas has generated the culture and ideas of poverty may also not be too far from the truth! What that means is that, in the struggle for survival, democracy of the stomach plays a very important role. To put it mildly, it is the culture of ‘what we shall eat first’ that takes pre-eminence whilst development no longer has any tangible meaning. With poverty of ideas at work, jaundiced interpretations are given to sound judgments and mob interference is pointlessly instigated. Caution is thrown to the wind and the peace of the society takes flight! But who’s to blame? After all, survival is priority; and this cuts across the nooks and crannies of the society.

Ideally, social changes in any society are always gradual, so unhurried and so piecemeal that, unless someone is a keen observer, many things will pass unnoticed. For instance, when tuition fees in Nigeria’s universities and other tertiary institutions were raised, only few students and few schools were out on the streets protesting against the hike. Society generally behaved as if it was a non-issue! When the price of pepper and other agricultural products were raised, people pretended not to notice! When the cost of living generally outstripped the income or revenue accruable to individuals, people resorted to self-help! When the people started noticing a breakdown in the norms and values of the society; especially, when the absurd strutted with frightening ease, the sum total was a degraded society. Unfortunately, those in authority were never made to face the music. So, they remained unrepentant ‘till Thy kingdom come!’

Sad that even the gains of our founding fathers in this regard have been eroded due to successive bad governments! For instance, the finesse that existed in the 1960s is no longer there. In the 1970s, the elite believed in – and adopted – the lower, middle and upper class dichotomy, which led to a healthy struggle to aspire to the next comfortable zone in the social strata. Unfortunately, that, too, no longer exists, simply because the military brought its bad interventions to bear; and subsequent bad political leadership couldn’t but truncate whatever remained of the finesse of the 1960s. As a matter of fact, this throwback has affected other sectors because it’s a societal, not standalone thing. It moves through human beings, to all other sectors. Is it any wonder that institutions have been badly affected while the continued survival of the public and private sectors are dimly doubtful? Such was the situation in parts of Osun State on January 27, 2023, following the ruling of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal. Safe for the timely intervention of a life-saver, yours sincerely would most probably have been senselessly lynched at the Orita Olaiya intersection in Osogbo, the state capital.

Recall that the Ademola Adeleke-led government also alleged that political appointees of the former administration took away the vehicles that belonged to the state. Well, it’s laughable that it was announced in the first place! In saner climes, it’d have been a question of writing, officially, to the alleged defaulters, demanding the return of those vehicles, failing which legal actions would be taken. After all, there were records of the state-owned vehicles, and to whom they were allocated. If the alleged defaulters’ action was not backed by law, the administrative process alone would have taken care of the punishment meted out to all because of the alleged sin of a few. Even, in the days of Obafemi Awolowo, salaries of public servants, not to speak of those who were never given even bicycles, would not have been withheld; which has been the situation in Osun till date; which, again, amounts to an abuse of power! And, this is 2023!

Let’s also talk about the declining influence of the activists. Without doubt, antecedents of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and the review of those antecedents have shown that most of them are experts at making noise until they are thrown up and recognised only to fall by the wayside due to pollution by political contaminants and the inducement of pelf. Needless to repeat that such NGOs that once held successive governments accountable are no longer in the book of reckoning. The comrades of yesteryears are now the best friends of the bourgeois class; and Union leaders can no longer be trusted because they have compromised standards.

Well, to begin to rebuild the society, we need a new orientation that cuts across the board; and it has to be a deliberate attempt, not a half-hearted medication. Since we are not a society of barbarians, the political will must be there to carry it through. Let not the government or the society deceive itself: until the mass of unemployed people are engaged, there won’t be an end to youth restiveness. Ignoring them will also be at the society’s peril.

For the society to be functional, we also need the interventions of the activists and the NGOs that will speak truth to power so that they can act as checks and balances. But, once they are compromised at that level, then, trouble looms! Society becomes endangered when there is a possibility of the Rule of Law being relegated. There and then, its safety is in jeopardy and its sustenance becomes doubtful. That’s exactly what the supporters of the ruling party did on that fateful Friday. Had the other side decided to follow the flow, what would have become the fate of the law-abiding residents?

Now that former Governor Gboyega Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have secured a legal victory at the Tribunal, let them not engage in what can be described Pyrrhic victory. That the society should also remain calm is a general appeal. Yes, Oyetola has won and it’s acknowledged everywhere. Even sound legal minds have repeatedly stated that it would be difficult to impeach the judgment at the Appellate Court. Nonetheless, let the winners allow the law to run its course even as they must advise their followers and sympathisers against misbehaving or saying things that are capable of heating up the polity and/or provoking the other side further into lawlessness. The legal system will keep working while the police will continue to keep the peace. And, if the current governor thinks that power has actually slipped off him, all he needs to do is throw in the towel and save the state further hassle.

In the final analysis, there must be concerted efforts to rebuild the society so that when politicians are campaigning, let us watch out for those who want to rebuild the society and those who want power for the sake of power. Wole Soyinka once suggested that Nigeria’s universities should be shut for at least 3 years while efforts were made to think through the kind of university system that would be suitable for Nigeria. Unfortunately, Soyinka’s suggestion was not only unpopular at the time but also fell on deaf ears. Only last year, the same universities were shut for the better part of one year. As fate would have it, ‘Kongi’ is now either too old to comment or the Nobel Laureate is fed up with the whole thing!

May the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, grant us peace in Osun State!

Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu, ‘The Famous Female Medical Doctor Who Made Huge Contributions to Healthcare Service delivery’

Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu, ‘The Famous Female Medical Doctor Who Made Huge Contributions to Healthcare Service delivery’

BY COMRADE MUSA MOHAMMED

The preservation and restoration of health are integral parts of any healthy and well-functioning society.

Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu innovation, hard work, and devotion changed the face of Federal Medical Centre Jalingo.

Her achievements is remarkable in every sense.
People are bound to wonder.
It’s the kind that fables are made of.

The public are keenly aware of the work that you’re doing to help patients across Nigeria.

The Medical Director, Federal medical centre Jalingo, Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu have delightfully and patriotically risen to the task. The Federal medical centre Jalingo, is the federal government owned tertiary health facility in Taraba state, which also renders medical services nation wide.

The MD effectively has proven to be an uphill task as virtually at preceding Medical Directors can attest. The hospital is perennially plagued by shortage of personnel, especially medical doctors, drugs, facilities and restive medical unions.

With lean resources, it takes the grace of God to create impact in the management of the medical facility to satisfy public yearnings for qualitative and affordable tertiary health care delivery to the citizenry.

However, an astute administrator and prudent manager of resources, Dr. Aisha Adamu, who was appointed the MD on March 25th 2020, by the president of nigeria Muhammadu Buhari, is gradually daring the odds, breaking the barriers and creating unexpected impacts.

Her judicious application of meagre resources has set the hospital on an unprecedented path of development, attracting public applause to her credit.

Dr. Aisha stands tall from her predecessors, with glaring and uncommon development strides and impacts on the medical facility. What arrested public instant attention recently, she improved sanitary condition of the health facility.

Clean wards, beddings, flowery and scintillating environment, with inviting fragrance were alluring. Staff discipline has also improved, as services were speedily rendered to patients and with an unusual politeness.

This is a marked departure from the culture of the past when staff were more at home bullying patients.

Or put differently, their uncouth official behavior was capable of worsening the health condition of an already traumatized patients battling with life.

Aside improving the working atmosphere and interaction between staff and patients, the incumbent administrator has delved into providing special services not offered by the hospital before now.

For the first time in the history of the hospital, medical services that have never been provided that had to spend huge sums of money to access the services abroad, in Abuja or elsewhere, but DR. AISHA SHEHU ADAMU has ended the nightmare.

Majority of the people in Jalingo, Taraba and neighbouring states excitedly how they have been relieved from the burden of seeking such specialized services at exorbitant costs in far places and praised the foresight and dexterity of the new leadership at FMC Jalingo led by Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu.

Therefore, we understand that those who are disciplined enough to impact with little resources, can perform incredibly even when they are trusted with more funds.

I am impressed that Dr. Aisha has demonstrated commitment to the development of the hospital and she is uncompromisingly determined to reposition it as one of the best of such health facilities in the country.

That she has been able to minimize the industrial restiveness in the hospital from medical unions alone is an indication of her unbeatable suave in leadership.

I hope to see more of such positive results sprout from this health facility.

Tinubu: Northerners are covenant keepers- Pro APC group replies Ayo, Yoruba factional leader

Tinubu: Northerners are covenant keepers- Pro APC group replies Ayo, Yoruba factional leader

….says North will not failed in keeping their promise by voting APC massively

A convener and a leader of a pro All Progressives Congress (APC) group known as Arewa New Agenda (ANA) Senator Ahmad Abubakar MoAllahyidi in a Press conference said Northern people are covenant keepers.

ANA in an efforts to replied Chief Ayo Adebanjo (aka Pa Ayo ) a factional leader of Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-cultural group who in Abeokuta said that the northern extraction will not vote for the Presidential candidate of the APC, Chief Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the forthcoming 2023 Presidential election.

ANA maintained that Pa Ayo does not speak for the north, dispelled his position by saying that North will massively vote for Tinubu.

“We wish to state that our organization respects elderly persons but, in this case, we disagree with the position taken by Pa Ayo more so as he does not speak for the north and has no such mandate; for his information the north has never failed to keep to its promise; when the north makes a covenant, the north keeps to it.

“The North is the strongest ally of APC in the contest for the 2023 primaries in the same manner that the South West was ally for the victory of the APC in the last two election cycles.

“Northern Governor of APC extraction led the charge for power shift from the north to the south; something the likes of Pa Ayo were unable to do simply because to make a covenant Pa Ayo, is not a northerner, and we cannot remember when we northerners appointed him to convey a message to any one; therefore, his assertion as widely reported is not only false but unfounded and can be better seen as the action of a meddlesome interloper or on a lighter scale the antics of a busy body.” Ahmad said

The group are totally dismayed, shocked, surprised and disbelieve a statement credited to elder in Abeokuta on Saturday Jan 4th 2023, making the rounds in social and conventional media circles in which he (Pa Ayo) was quoted to have said that, it’s a typical of him.

Ahmad while reading a text to journalists in Abuja said ANA is a forum of concerned northerners comprising of academics, serving and former legislators, diplomats, technocrats, development practitioners, women and youth leaders, politicians, artisans, traders and farmers that is positioned to set an agenda for protection of the interest of the North.

By this Ahmad told Ayo that Northerners leaders of thoughts that their yes is yes and the integrity of ANA as respected individual cannot be bought over.

He went down memory lane and reminded Ayo and Nigerians that Chief Olusegun Obasanjo became the flag bearer of the PDP and won the 1999 and 2003 presidential elections mainly because of the backing he received from the North.

“In the APC Presidential primaries of 2022, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu scored 1,271votes more than half of the total votes cast in the convention to win the primaries, majority of these votes come from the north; the same north that Pa Ayo said will not support Tinubu

“Given what is unfolding in the South West today Pa Ayo’s attempt to justify his position by saying that his submission is based on fairness justice and equity is indeed laughable because it was said that whoever is coming to equity must come with clean hands. Records have shown that every presidential candidate that Pa Ayo opposes ended up winning the election- Asiwajus’s case will not be different
Just because Pa Ayo has some differences with Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not in any way mean that the Yoruba race think the same, as we have our doubts that he has the mandate to speak for the Yorubas.

“We warn that this is the time for high wire political activities that usually culminate into tension and suspicion; we call for restrain in all utterances. From our research Pa Ayo’s statement was not driven by any nationalist instinct or principle; it is just a personal vendetta against the personality of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We advise Pa Ayo to stop taking advantage of African culture of respect for the old to pursue a very myopic, narrow minded and selfish political vendetta, this a pure act of mischief and malice.

“Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has visited many States in the North, made policy statements and made a committal promises to us, if GOD Almighty gives him the opportunity to serve as our next
president, we the northerners will hold him accountable to that.

“Based on the past excellent record of performance and antecedents of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his various callings, the north is comfortable with him. He supported northern presidential candidates in the past; the north has reciprocated this gesture on every occasion; the present situation is no different as the north will repeat the performance by overwhelming support to the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.”

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the National Coordinator of Tinubu Shettima Network (TSN), Engineer Kailani Muhammad has been appointmented , Acting Director-General of the Amalgamated All Progressives Congress (APC) Support Groups for the Presidential flagbearer of the Party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and his running mate Senator Kashim Shettima.

Engineer Kailani Muhammad, who is also an APC Chieftain with a huge grassroots support base across the 19 Northern states of the country, promised to use the position to bring all members of the support groups together as a united front to win the election landslide.

In a chat with journalists shortly after a meeting with stakeholders and women groups at his Kaduna Residence, Kailani hinted that the over two thousand support groups spread the 36 states of Nigeria have commenced a door-door campaign to mobilize nothing less than forty million votes for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the February 25 presidential elections.

On issue of Naira swap and fuel scarcity, Kailani thanked Governors of Kaduna ,Kogi and Zamfara States for swiftly filing a case at the Supreme court to secure the order stoping CBN’s February 10 deadline .

“The action has helped to expose all the crooks ,who have conspired with some persons within corridors of power to frustrate the outcome of elections.

“For adequate fuel supply at filling stations , I can authoritatively inform you that the National Nigerian Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL has stepped up measures to ensure enough supply of petrol and within few days the queues will be a thing of past .

He however, urged Nigerians to shun detractors, who hell bent on working against Tinubu Shettima ticket for selfish reasons and come out en masse to vote the APC candidate, who has the best of programmes to deliver Nigeria from shackles of poverty; insecurity, unemployment , dwindling economy and shortage of food supply .

“The essence of the meeting held are to inform and show the whole world that we don’t have any other candidates than Tinubu and Shettima to deliver Nigeria and other candidates contesting under APC platform .

“We have already won the election , we have 21 governors in vault and have 5 PDP Governors supporting us .

It will interest you to know that 27 political parties have endorsed our principal Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and hoping that more persons will join as the election draw nearer.

Naira Redesign: El-Rufai’s Show of Sympathy for Masses is Deceitful – PDP Youth Vanguard

Naira Redesign: El-Rufai’s Show of Sympathy for Masses is Deceitful – PDP Vanguard

Group under umbrella of People’s Democratic Party(PDP) National Youth Vanguard, North-West Zone has described Kaduna State Governor,Mal.Nasir El-Rufai as betrayal of the highest order, who is trying to show sympathy to the masses, whom he deprived necessities of live.

Recalled three governors,  Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, his counterpart in Kogi, Yahaya Bello and Bello Matawalle of Zamfara had sued the FG before the Supreme Court over the scarcity of the new naira notes and the short deadline issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria had generated tension in the country.

The claim that he, El-Rufai  and his colleagues took the Federal Government to the Supreme Court over the new naira swap policy to save the country is nothing but a vain deciet  and a game of pulling wool over our eyes of Nigerians  for selfish interests .

The PDP group,  which queried  the rationale behind  El-Rufai’s acclaimed sudden love for  the same  masses, he demolished houses they lived  and markets they eke their living is questionable and laughable.

In a press statement signed by the Zonal  Coordinator of People’s Democratic Party Vanguard , N/W zone, Hon. Ibrahim Ahmadu the group said, “El-Rufai can’t be  a voice for the masses now, having displayed overt hatred for them during his seven years reign as Kaduna Governor.”

The group further asked ,” Where on earth was El-Rufai’s voice when innocent students and people of Kaduna were kidnapped and killed on several occasions?

It equally said, “Nigerians should ask El-Rufai ,if he was blind to the problem of petroleum scarcity that hitherto has affected cost of transportation and food across the country and the rampant killings and kidnaping of residence of the State  under his watch as the Chief Security officer, without any serious and proactive measures to stop the problems.

“So,We are surprised that he suddenly woke up and developed sympathy for same people he sacked from work and failed to pay their gratuities;  pensions  and other  entitlements .

“This is a Governor who has collected over 500 million dollars loans on behalf of generation unborn  with no valid and sustainable means to pay such after leaving office.

“You can’t claim to be a voice of the people you  used your administration to destroy their means of livelihood.

“Those who think he cared for the people should ask him what he did with money of the  property of civil servants sold; Federal Allocation, bailout funds, ecological funds and Internally Generated Revenues over the past seven years.

“We also asking him to tell Kaduna people how much he built roads and who are the consultants.

“He who comes into equity, must come with clean hands .Someone who is heartless and high-handed does not have the moral right to stand and speak for the masses”

However, the group urged the federal government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to shun the so called Supreme Order of El-Rufai and his cohorts and put all necessary measures to cushion the effect of the naira redesign after the February 10 deadline .

Osun: when Tinubu came visiting ByAbiodun KOMOLAFE

Osun: when Tinubu came visiting
By
abiodun KOMOLAFE

(Published in THE NATION, February 8, 2023)

Clearly, the love Nigerians have for Bola Tinubu obliterates the hatred which anybody may possess for the All Progressives Congress (APC). Otherwise, his recent visit to Osun State wouldn’t have been such a huge success. To this end, the immediate past Governor Gboyega Oyetola and other members of the party in the state deserve commendation for the laudable feat of February 2, 2023.

Well, the general belief is that politicians will always come up with promises but, at the end of the day, nothing happens. Be that as it may, what Tinubu said in Osun brought along with it a higher level of believability. Of course, this has to do with his antecedents. Talking about issues like ‘changing the direction of the economy’; ‘creating jobs’; and ‘ASUU never to be on strike again’, the truth is that Tinubu has been to the university and he has seen how the system operates. In the realm of commerce, the former governor of Lagos State is no doubt a guru. So, he knew what he’s talking about! The presidential candidate also said he would establish industries in each of the six geopolitical zones to create employment opportunities in those localities without our young adults necessarily having to run to Lagos or Abuja to seek imaginary employment opportunities. Surely, any government that does that successfully will discourage rural-urban drift.

With regard to Tinubu’s opponents in the contest, what Nigerians should look for is what they have done. By this, we mean their antecedents. Since little is known about the involvement of the other presidential flag-bearers in the struggle for democracy in Nigeria, let the “accidental democrats” come forward and show Nigerians their credentials and, indeed, what they have done for dear country now that democratic structure is in place.

Tinubu’s visit to Osun is expected to help at resolving the lingering crises within the APC family in the state. Deploying his mighty influence and political balancing will be of great advantage to the party in the coming general elections. Besides, the senseless display of gangsterism by some followers of different factions will be appeased. The loopholes discovered in the last governorship election are also expected to be blocked with all sincerity and sense of sacrifice. These in my personal opinion should be the inestimable benefits from the visit of the ‘Asiwaju of Lagos’ and his presidential campaign team to the state. After all, the ‘Jagaban of Borgu’ is a voice that can’t be neglected, even by his ardent haters and negative propagandists.

In fairness to posterity, one issue that must be pointed out is that Osun APC is still burdened by inexplicable divisions, avoidable crises and self-inflicted conflicts. And that’s what makes it impossible for former Governor Rauf Aregbesola and Oyetola, his successor in office, to reconcile. Truth be told, the town is not smiling even as poverty is playing a major role. Everybody is poor; and everybody wants to be rich. Therefore, nobody wants to listen to the party. Since the party is also inanimate, zero emotion is emitted. That’s why those who want to scrape the remaining milk are always taking sides needlessly! The more reason the feuding leaders in Osun APC must start eating ‘amala’ and ‘gbegiri’ from the same plate; and Nigerians must see it to be so! If the party structure is intact, then, no individual is bigger than the party. Therefore, to say that Aregbesola has (his) followership, and Oyetola has (his) followership – in the same party; and in the same state – is an anathema to democratic norms. So, let the party tread the path of caution!

In the considered opinion of yours sincerely, loyalty to a single person in a party is a recipe for chaos. So, it’s mandatory for members to give absolute loyalty to the party. While preference for an individual’s profile in the party may differ from one person to the other, loyalty to the party is ultimately supreme. Otherwise, the party will collapse like a pack of cards; because the loyalty web is the central nerve of any political party. It is actually what holds a party together! That’s how our founding fathers left it! Indeed, that’s why people had to agree with the late Obafemi Awolowo even when his decisions might not be sitting well with their personal beliefs and/or interests. Again, that’s why you’d never see a party man like Lateef Jakande saying that he’d not accept Awo’s decision.

A lot of people learnt so much from Mahtma Ghandi that, long after Ghandi has gone, Ghandhism continues to wax stronger. Ditto for Chairman Mao Tse-Tung! On the contrary, Nigerians are so unreal that they embrace the show but reject the nitty-gritty of the drama presentation. Through interpretive understanding of symbolic interactionism, ‘Awoists’, so called, often wear ‘Awo cap’ to deceive the people; but not a bit of Awo’s character.

Awolowo raised leaders that were younger than him; some of whom, today, are setting the pace globally. Likewise, Tinubu has raised leaders, some of whom are not only better than him but also overtaking him while he is alive. Again, sad that Awoism as a concept was never defined. Otherwise, the likes of Ebenezer Babatope wouldn’t have become a political butterfly, searching for the proverbial nectar hither and thither! Well, the truth of the matter is that, once a journalist features a politician in the class of Awolowo, he or she is already taken for an Awoist!

Prior to the July 16, 2022 Osun governorship election, the popular saying in some quarters was that the electorate would vote for Tinubu but reject Oyetola. But, over time, and with the recent development a la the Osun Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, a section of the populace has ignorantly been holding the notion that Tinubu must have influenced the outcome of the election petition. Therefore, it’s their belief that ‘City Boy’, as Tinubu is fondly called, must be paid back in his own coin. Let’s not also forget that the ruling party and its government are lurking in the dark. Interestingly, they still have the sympathy of a good chunk of the electorate in the state.

At any rate, Nigerians have seen beyond the smokescreen that the leadership trait of the party currently in power in Osun does not portray sympathy for the democratic public administration. For instance, a government which can withhold certain public servants’ salaries – and it’s not losing sleep about negative reports – has already weaponized poverty. Obviously, what it’s doing right now is to monitor where the state’s resources are allocated with a view to ensuring that the people are muzzled so that, when the election is few days away, the tight grip will be loosened a little bit to allow the song of Osun PDP being the people’s saviour resonates in the minds of the people.

In view of the foregoing, it will be in the objective interest of Osun APC to resolve the party crisis and mop up the votes of the undecided voters and repentant members before the D-day. It therefore behoves elders and leaders of the party to sit up and speak up so that everybody will queue behind the authority of the party. The party should also pump sufficient resources to lubricate the will of the party machinery. After all, holding the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) is not enough, doing the needful with it is what matters most!

May the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world, grant us peace in Osun State!
