Those Kicking Against Fuel Subsidy Removal Ignorant About Economic Advantages  Advantages -Eng.Kailani Muhammad

Those Kicking Against Fuel Subsidy Removal Ignorant About Economic Advantages  Advantages -Eng.Kailani Muhammad

An energy expert and former Staff of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company, Engineer ( Dr.) Kailani Muhammad said those kicking against the removal fuel subsidy are either ignorant about the economic advantages or misguided by few selfish individuals.

According to him, the removal of fuel  subsidy by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is best decision for Nigeria’s progress and development .

President Tinubu in his inaugural address on Monday did declare an end to the era of subsidy payment, saying the 2023 budget made no provision for fuel subsidy, so further payment was no longer justifiable.

But this didn’t go down well with the labour unions and some Nigerians who felt , the decision is hasty.

Engineer Kailani Muhammad, who is also the National Coordinator of Confederation of All Progressives Congress (APC) support groups

in a reaction to news on the subsidy removal said, it is high time NLC , TUC and other Nigerians  face the  reality of the pronouncement of the President  and decision of the national oil company, NNPCL to support it .

While commending President Tinubu for taking the bold step to remove fuel subsidy and Management of NNPCL’s position to accept it in good faith,he noted that the subsidy era wreaked  serious havoc on revenue generation and can’t afford to retain it under this harsh economic conditions.

He However, described as unfortunate the situation where Petroleum Marketers have within 24 hour of the pronouncement  hiked prices of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol at the filling stations to over 700 naira per liter .

He further said , “Marketers hoarding: products  should know  that NNPCL had said no going back on the withdrawal of subsidy.

“NNPCL is doing its best to ensure adequate supply of fuel to douse the problem of panic buying.”

He expressed joy that the Mele Kyari led Management has already taken proactive measure to ensure constant fuel supply to avoid queues at filling stations.

Meanwhile, he asked Nigerians to embrace the decision by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reposition the oil industry and create a poll for the proceed accrued from sales of PMS  to be used for sustainable development.

“The idea of NLC and other labour unions threatening and demanding that the refineries must be working first before withdrawal of subsidy is retrogressive and far from economic reality .” He stressed.

He urged Marketers to do the needful by opening stocks and sell to the public with hope that market forces of supply and demand will determine pump prices of petrol henceforth.

According to him, Good Marketers will capitalise on the advantages and buy and sell at competitive reasonable prices and make more profit on investments.

Eng. Kailani noted that all stakeholders in the oil Sector must come together to fashion away out the crisis.

He However, called on Nigerians to support Tinubu-Shettima led APC government with assurance that Nigerians will enjoy sustainable growth and development across all sectors of the economy.Adding, ” Tinubu has good intentions for the country”.

Fuel subsidy removal: Group Supports Tinubu, NNPCL

Fuel subsidy removal: Group Supports Tinubu, NNPCL

A group under the auspices of Coalition for Good Governance and Economic Development (CGGED) has thrown its weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the management of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for the fuel subsidy removal.

The group argued that the removal of the subsidy would allow the market forces of demand and supply to determine pump price of petroleum henceforth.

In a statement by the National Coordinator of the group, Comrade Usman Abdulkadir said the decision to support the removal of fuel subsidy was because its advantages suppassed the disadvantages in terms of business and economic development.

“Our decision to support the removal of fuel subsidy is because, we discovered from our findings that advantages of removing the fuel subsidy far outweighs the disadvantages business and economic development .

“We have also discovered that failure on side of previous administration to take decisive steps to stop importation of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and outright removal of subsidy is highly responsible for recurring scarcity and fuel queues at our filling stations across the country .

“We there state categorically with dwindling economy and paucity of funds to run government that we can’t afford to continue to pay 1.2 Trillion naira monthly as fuel subsidy, when opening the market and removal subsidy will help save money that would used for sustainable development and quality service delivery.

“It is on this note that we are backing the pronouncement made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) on the removal of fuel subsidy.

“It is no longer news that Nigerians woke up to watch and listen to shocking pronouncement by the President, in his inaugural address on Monday May 29, 2023 ,where he openly declared an end to the era of subsidy payment, saying the 2023 budget made no provision for fuel subsidy, so further payment was no longer justifiable.

“If there is no provisions made for fuel subsidy in the budget , how do we expect the current administration to pay for what is not appropriated for ? Any attempt to pay for subsidy now , will surely amount to breach law .More so, that government can’t withdraw money illegally to pay subsidy .

“We now understand why the Management of Engineer Mele Kyari led NNPCL during an emergency press conference held at the NNPC Towers, Abuja, told Nigerians that the move was in the best interest of the company.

“The Chief Executive Officer of the NNPCL revealed that the company has been spending a substantial amount of its profits in the subsidy of the product

“It is against this background that we insist on removal of subsidy and the money used to pay subsidy in the past be used for development of agricultural and industrial Sectors.

“We strongly believe that doing so will lead to high production of food and raw materials for industries as well as employment generation”. The statement said.

Senate Presidency: NPF blasts ex-Buhari aide, others over anti-Yari rants

Senate Presidency: NPF blasts ex-Buhari aide, others over anti-Yari rants

The Northwest Progressives Forum(NPF) has lampooned ex-Presidential aide Mr. Obono-Obla, for what it described as “reckless outburst and attention-seeking rant” against Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari, a frontline APC contender for the slot of Senate President.

In a media statement signed by the group’s Director of Public Relations, Adamu Isa on Saturday, the group wondered why the ex-presidential aide “who has case of fraud with the ICPC has the guts to call Yari names and even object the APC Senate President’s legitimate struggle for the number-three seat”.

The group, in the statement, recalled that “the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) in late January 2021 arraigned Mr. Obono-Obla, and two others for fraud and certificate forgery.”

The Statement stressed that Obono-Obla, as a former Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution and ex-Chairman of the disbanded Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property (SPIP), “was arraigned by the ICPC and the matter is not yet over”.

The NPF also reacted to the stance of the Forum of National Assembly Legislative Aides from the North West, which reportedly expressed displeasure with the refusal of Yari to back down for Senator Akpabio.

“We were not surprised that the Forum of Legislative Aides of the National Assembly would hold a Press Conference to insinuate that Yari’s backing out of the race was the only way forward just because they have a hidden agenda . Truth is, at the end of the day, only Senators elected under the 10th Senate have the power to choose their leaders from amongst themselves.

“We’re  happy to have read and fully support the position of the ruling party as reflected in the full-page interview of the National Chairman of the APC, His Excellency Abdullahi  Adamu, in the Daily Trust, when he said ‘ Senators will elect elect their leaders on D-day”, the NPF Director said in the Statement.

10th Senate: Akpabio associate lampoons Atiku spokesman, Bwala

10th Senate: Akpabio associate lampoons Atiku spokesman, Bwala

A close associate of Senator Godswill Akpabio, Dr. Jibril Tafida has lampooned the spokesman of PDP, Daniel Bwala, for saying Akpabio would unlikely emerge as the new Senate President because he was surrounded by lawmakers working against his ambition.
Dr. Tafida, while answering questions from newsmen, said Bwala’s analysis of Akpabio’s chances was pedestrian because “he ( Bwala) did not understand the former Niger Delta Minister’s political masterstroke”.

He explained that all the lawmakers who have openly shown loyalty to Akpabio’s bid have been doing so long before the battle for the number three seat became a media buzz.

“Let me give you one example. Take the no-nonsense Senator Ali Ndume. He is solidly behind Akpabio’s Senate bid from day one. So are all the other lawmakers . Bwala got it all twisted,” Dr. Tafida added.

Going further, Tafida said Bwala “should not have so conveniently forgotten, that Senator Akpabio is still the leading contestant for Senate Presidency, both at the party level and in the court of public opinion. Akpabio is clearly unstoppable, with the 60 Senators giving their signatures as demonstration of their total support”.

S/Kaduna: Allegation against military over renewed criss false, malicious,baseless-SOKIPEP

S/Kaduna: Allegation against military over renewed criss false, malicious,baseless-SOKIPEP

*Exonerates military commanders of any wrong doing

*Begs military high command to forgive Atyap Devt. Association over false accusations

*Appeals to FG to deploy more troops to trouble area

*Passes vote of confidence on OPSH, Commander

A peace building group in Southern Kaduna has described allegation of complicity of the military in the renewed crisis in the area as not only false but also malicious and baseless.

The indigenous peace advocacy organisation insisted that contrary to the accusation by the leadership of Atyap Development Association, that the military had aided and abetted the renewed attacks in Southern Kaduna, the military has rather done excellently well in enthronning  peace and harmony in the area.

The Kaduna based peace advocacy group operating under the aegis of Southern Kaduna Peace Practitioners Network,SOKIPEP,in a statement on the security situation in Southern Kaduna, countered the claim of the president of Atyap Development Association, Samuel Achi, that the military and in particular, the Commander of the military formation in charge of peace enforcement in Southern Kaduna,Brigadier General Timothy Opurum, were involved in the crisis.

SOKIPEP in the statement, signed by its National Coordinator, Rev. Dauda Fadia and the Director of Community Outreach, Dr Samuel Lekwot, absolved the military and the Commander of any wrong doing, insisting that they have carried out their assigned mandate professionally.

To this end,it passed a vote of confidence on Operation Safe Haven ,OPSH and the Commander, noting that contrary to the allegation, the renewed violence in the area was caused by cow poisoning and the killing of a herder by some criminal elements in some southern kaduna villages.

The group which said it has high regard for the Atyap Development Association and its leadership, however said it felt constrained to say the truth even as it may hurt their brothers and the leadership of the association.

“We feel constrained to release this statement stating the true state of security in Southern Kaduna, so as to set the records straight in the overall interest of peace and posterity,”the statement said

Going further, the Southern Kaduna Peace Practitioners Network, said:”As a people who are predominantly Christians, the only thing that  can set us free is the truth no matter whose interest is hurt or affected.”

“We wish to counter the blatant, malicious and day  light fabricated lies by our brother, Samuel Achi, the President of Atyap Development Association against the military and in particular the Commander of the military formation in charge of peace enforcement in Southern Kaduna,Brigadier General Timothy Opurum.

“We are disappointed in our brother, Mr Achi that he left the  true cause of the renewed conflict behind only to blame a man and his team who are doing everything possible to protect our people. The Commander and his team,no doubt, have put in all the available  strength and capabilities in emplacing peace in our area without any single iota of bias.

“We naturally wouldn’t have delved into the matter since the military itself is capable of defending themselves. However, we are conscience bound to rise in their defence and also speak the truth in the interest of patriotism and God’s sake,” the group added.

While noting that it condemns “in the strongest terms the senseless and inhuman attacks that have been going on in our communities by suspected criminal herders and their accomplices”SOKIPEP said the attacks are “reprehensible and must be condemned by all men of goodwill. “

SOKIPEP statement read further:”While not trying to justify the killing of human beings for any reason or have alibi for the killers,we must look at the criminal activities of some of our farmers and youths who have over time, deliberately ignited these attacks by poisoning cattle belonging to herders without any form of provocation or farm trespass, which should be ordinarily reported to the security agencies.

“We have noted that sometimes, these people

even silently killed the cattle rearers when there is an encroachment.

“Southern Kaduna has been peaceful for more than nine months due to the combine efforts of the military task force,Operation Safe Haven and other security agencies and the entire stakeholders in the Southern Kaduna peace building community, until recently when there was the poisoning of over 70 cows and the killing of a herder at Ugwan Mai Juju.

“Poisoning of cows have become a daily trend in our local communities, even when there is a clear warning that our people shouldn’t take laws into their hands no matter the provocation. In spite of this we allow our youths carry out these criminal acts unchecked and when the security agencies come to arrest them, we hide and protect them. We must stop this forthwith.

“The attacks by suspected criminal herdsmen which led to the death of several people in some Southern Kaduna communities are highly condemnable and must stop henceforth. We the native associations must also be bold enough to tell our people in the local communities to avoid conduct that are likely to cause breach of peace no matter the provocation.

“Our leaders must be bold enough to  rise up to the challenge of speaking truth to the youths to stop these criminal acts of cow poisoning and isolated killings of the herders while grazing. If there is any encroachment or infractions, they should quickly report to the security agencies.”

The group said,”Instead of vilifying the Commander of Operation Safe Haven in Southern Kaduna for speaking the truth, we should strive to become genuine peace ambassadors.”

SOKIPEP said the OPSH Commander ,Brig. General Timothy Opurum “spoke the whole truth on the security situation in the area and from all available records, the  Commander and his men have not done anything wrong “in any area in the protection of lives and properties in Southern Kaduna.”

“He has lost several officers and men while trying to protect our people during some of these senseless attacks. It is therefore, an act of mere wickedness for our brothers in the Atyap Community Development Association to leave the substance which is outright  criminality to face an innocent man who is doing his work professionally,” it said.

To this end, SOKIPEP said,”We therefore, call on the international communities and all Nigerians to ignore the blantant  and baseless allegations against the Commander and the military outfit, Operation Safe Haven in Southern Kaduna.”
